Dear aspirant

Ayurvedic Physician

Ayurvedic physicians are most often working as just other medical practitioners work. They are never confined to a room actually. The role of an ayurvedic physician varies depending on his qualification and experience. To become an expert in ayurveda one should most probably study either of these two courses. Diploma in ayurveda practice or a professional medical degree like the BAMS Bachelor of ayurveda medicine and surgery. The diploma is run usually one or three years depending on the educational board and institutions that offer the course. But a BAMS professional degree is run often like the MBBS degree, four and a half years plus one year internship extra. So depending on diploma or professional medical degree your work will be based on.

If you are a diploma holder then you may most often be confined in a room or a research lab. You will be assisting your doctor or ayurvedic experts and surgeons in making ayurvedic medicines and applying them on the patients. If you are alterantively a professional ayurvedic doctor then your role is definitely not only within a room as your role only lies in treating patients you wont be confined in a room. Ayurvedic doctors are of two types, one is a general practitioner who does not perform surgery but is trained to analyse medical issues and suggest and apply treatment and medicines accordingly. The second type is an ayurvedic surgeon who is an expert level and handle surgeries for patients. This person is a trained operation physician and he performs operation just as an MBBS doctor. After which the surgeon will apply internal ayurvedic medicines to the patients to heal them from surgeries.

So dont worry that ayurvedic surgeons are confined to a room only. Their roles varies like doing surgeries, making medicines, handling external patients, handling internal patients, application of external medicines, application for internal medicines, monitoring patients. Most of the ayurvedic practitioners are also these days trying to attach yoga therapy and meditation therapy as a rule to their patients. This way their role gets diversified and they are doing much more than only the ayurvedic medicine practice. To become an ayurvedic physician, studying sanskrit, biology and chemistry are important until 12th class. Then you should appear for individual board exam to get selected for BAMS seat. You can also appear for All India medical entrance test conducted by AIMS Delhi to get selected for BAMS.
