Appointments are competitive and bases on performance in audition, screen-tests as well as qualifications.Talented artists / musician who have passion and flair are prerequisites of a career in the music business. Moreover performers need stamina as well as versatility , they need to be resourceful and flexible to overcome the inevitable ups and downs of the entertainment business , and composers and lyricists must be sensitive to audience moods and tastes to remain popular.

You wish to be a part of a Rock Band, be a go-setter and join a band.
Before that I am sure, I don't have to tell you, you should have mastered various instruments, but specialized in one, good with vocals, knowing of both classic-alto Indian to-western music, Retro music, music of all genres, Good musical sense, very important know different languages.
Currently note knowing your qualifications, it is difficult to advice you anything at the moment.

If you have not completed your Graduation, you could graduate with Indian Music, or electronic engineer or sound engineer.These courses act as a back-up for you, and its not compulsory that you need to just work as a rock artists and record in others studio. Doing the above courses helps you getting into media industry, acquainted with recording studios etc. This helps you in building your contacts, and then you could meet up with lie-minded people and begin your own band.

If you are studying, then you could join a band and work part-time with them, playing at concerts or clubs.
At the same time, you could slowly slowly get involved with them or begin on your own.

Also if you are ready with your group and your piece of Music, and are not shy to perform, then you could get in touch with corporate to performing their events, get n touch with event managers or club managers and promote yourself. Please note initially you would be paid very less, but once you establish yourself, you could charge as per your demand. Entry is important. Once you have performed one show, you could them promote yourself on Radio Mirchi, which hosts a show on new upcoming rock-star n\bands.
