Dear aspirant

Thank you very much for approaching counsellors at Mera career guide. Becoming a professor? Great ambition i would say. Before we go into the topic, please let me introduce myself. I am Gomathi and i am into this counselling industry over since 23 years. I am also the managing director of GV counselling group based in Bangalore and recently started in Chennai as well. I specialise in guidance and counselling for students and mature people on their education and career. So lets go into your query now.

Students generally are targeted to the IT world and i hardly see a few students interested in becoming a professor. A professor is an employee working for a university/ college to conduct both teaching and research. You can certainly become a professor in Aeronautical engineering if you follow the following steps written below. To become a professor a PhD degree is highly essential as a professor status is given only to phd degree holders. To get a PhD in Aeronautical engineering, you need to do the following

  • Pass 10th class with a minimum first class (+10)

  • Pass 12th class with a minimum first class (+2)

  • Pass a four year bachelors degree in Aeronautical engineering. For this you should study a BENG/ BTech in Aeronautical engineering or at least a BENG/ BTech in Mechanical engineering with a specialization in aeronautical engineering. It is preferred if you have studied aeronautics at least for a few major credits at the bachelor degree level. You should expect to pass this bachelors degree with a minimum first class. This is known as (+4). Therefore, to get admission in Indian universities for a phd, you should have completed this +10+2+4 route compulsorily. This is the basic eligibility criteria that you have to pass.

  • If possible, also study a masters degree and preferably a two year masters like the MENG/ MTech in Aeronautical engineering. This also requires a minimum first class pass mark. If you are from reservation category, you can expect some flexibility that is you can get a minimum of 55% and not less than that.

  • Next appear for GATE exam if you want to do your phd at IIT institutions. If your focus is out side IIT schools, then you are required to do UGC-NET UGC-JRF exam. With these score you can apply for a phd degree.

Completing a PhD degree you are qualified to work directly as an Assistant professor and after 2-3 years of experience you will be promoted as a professor.
