To become a professor of agriculture engg, one needs to have an either masters degree or a doctorate degree like a phd. However, a PhD is more desirable to directly start career as an Assistant professor where as with a masters degree you can start initially only as a lecturer. So to study these degrees,

  • First pass 10th class with a minimum first class (+10)

  • Pass 12th class with a minimum first class (+2)

  • Pass a bachelors degree with a minimum first class. this bachelors degree could be either a three year degree like the BA/BSc/Bcom (+3) or the four year bachelors degree like BEng/ Btech degree (+4). As you desire a line in agriculture engineering, you are advised to study either a BSc Agriculture or BEng/ BTech Agricultural engineering. Studying a relevant degree is very important for PhD admissions and no university actually encourages admitting students from a non-relevant background. If you are from a SC/ST reserved category, it is essential to have a minimum of 55% through out and others require a minimum of 60% through out. It is mandatory for every student to follow this 10+2+3 pattern or the 10+2+4 pattern as this is the basic eligibility across the country for applying for a PhD. In case any one gets missed, applying to a PhD is not possible.

  • Completing the bachelors course, you are required to apply for a two year masters degree like the MSc Agriculture or MTech Agricultural engineering. After this masters, you can write UGC-LEC exam and upon pass you are qualified to work as a lecturer at colleges and universities. After a few years work experience as a lecturer, you can be promoted as an assistant professor and then a professor.

  • Else you can also study a phd after a masters degree. For this you need to write GATE/ UGC-NET exam for PhD admission and then a UGC-JRF for a monthly stipend. With these scores you can apply for a PhD admission and study. After completing it you are qualified to work as an Assistant professor initially and then get promoted as a professor after 2-3 years based on performance and experience.
