Hello aspirant

Thank you very much for approaching counsellors at Mera career guide. I must say you have a womnderful ambition of becoming a Professor. A professor engages in teaching and research and i always encourage students to take up this line considering the responsibility it gives you on your shoulders. I really appreciate you for the decision of becoming a professor. Before I go into the topic, please let me introduce myself. I am Gomathi and i am a prof counsellor practicing guidance and counselling for students and other people on both education choice and career options. I am practicing as a counsellor for over 23 years now and i am also the Managing Director of GV counselling group based in Bangalore. So lets go into the query now. To become a Professor, one needs to have a Doctorate degree that is a phD degree. I will brief on how to get this PhD degree.

  • You should pass 10th class with a minimum first class
  • You should pass 12th class wth a minimum first class
  • You should pass a basic bachelors degree with a minimum first class. This bachelors degree could be either a three year degree like BA/ BSc or a four year degree like BE/ BTech. As you wanted to become a professor of industrial production engineering, you are advised to only study a BE/ BTech Production engineering/ Manufacturing engineering/ Industrial engineering degrees. Please be aware that it is necessary to follow this +10+2+3 route or the +10+2+4 route to apply for a phD in India as this is the basic criteria for every one to qualify. It is okay even if you have studied either of the degrees in correspondence but understand that universities mostly prefer full time/ regular students. If you are outside of reservation category it is mandatory to get a minimum of 60% or more and for students from reservation category it is 55% or more.
  • Next study a Masters degree like ME/ MTech in Production engineering or industrial engineering related/ This also requires you to pass with a minimum 60% or more.
  • You are almost ready now but you are to write one exam to be qualified to apply for a phD. If your focus is studying at IIT institutions, then you are required to write the GATE exam. IIT demands every prospective PhD candidate to have written GATE for PhD in engineering subjects.
  • If your focus is studying outside IIT, then you need to write and pass UGC-NET exam and if you also want monthly stipend you need to pass UGC-JRF.

With these scores and exam results you can apply for a PhD and study. Completing the PhD you are qualified to work as a professor at colleges/ universities.
