Hello

Thank you for approaching counsellors at Mera career guide and contacting us. Before i advice you on this question, let me introduce myself first please. I am Gomathi and I have been into counselling work since over 23 years now. I am also the Managing director of GV Counselling group based in Bangalore and i specialise in education and career guidance. So lets go into the topic.

Please understand to become a professor, you need a PhD qualification. Only a doctorate qualification can give you a professor position. With this PhD degree you can work in colleges and universities in India and abroad to conduct both teaching and research. So first i will tell you how to get a phd degree.
  • Pass 10th class with a minimum first class (this is known as +10 qualification)
  • pass 12th class with a minimum first class (this is known as +2 qualification)
  • Pass a basic bachelors degree with a minimum first class. If you complete a three year bachelors degree like a BSC/ BA it is known as +3 qualification or if you complete a four year bachelors degree like BE/ BTech it is known as +4 qualification. As you are interested in oil technology, you should do a four year bachelor of engineering or technology degree in Petroleum studies. University of petroleum and energy studies offers a four year Bachelor degree and you may consider applying for that course too.
  • Completing this BTech degree, you can also choose to study a Masters degree in Petroleum studies. Now you can choose to do a PhD with a BTech and MTech scores. Please be aware that if you are from a reserved category, 55% is the minimum in 10th, 12th and Degree and if you are outside reserved category 60% is the minimum.
  • Now with all the school and degree scores you can apply for a phD in petroleum studies. Along with the scores you also need to write GATE score if you want to do a PhD in IIT institutions. If you want to do PhD outside IIT institutions, you need a UGC-NET score or CSIR score. If you want monthly stipend to study your PhD, you also need a UGC-JRF score. With these scores you can apply for studying a PhD.
  • You can also add some publications or books you have written on the phd study application to increase your chances of getting phd admission. Now completing a PhD, you are eligible to work as an Assistant professor at colleges and universities. After 2 years of performance and experience, you can be promoted as a Professor.
