Dear aspirant
Thank you for approaching counsellors at CareerGuide.com. I understand your interest towards Biotechnology degree right at 10th level but i ask you why do you wnat to do a Diploma only and not a degree level course like the BSc/ BTech? Diploma is old fashioned these days and companies dont usually give lot of scope for work and learn for diploma holders. While you have a degree, you can get a better job as well as better pay. Degree is also considered as a valuable and eligible qualification while your company is considering you for promotions.
A Diploma is going to take three years to complete any way and instead you can choose studying a BSc Biotechnology degree in this time period right? The only difference is you can start studying the Diploma soon after 10th class but will study the degree level only after 12th class.
AS a counsellor i highly advice you to consider a degree level considering the tough competition in present job market. Biotech degree is almost born since 15 years now and india is rapidly growing and as a counsellor's observation i have always found that Diploma holders are only left to lab technician jobs and not really allowed to manage and run a lab experiment on their own. The pay will also be relatively less and to even get a 12000 to 15000 per month, you will take at least three years while with a BSc degree you can get upto 18000 to 25000 by second to third year itself. As said you will have high growth opportunities.
So this is the phase i want to advice you to choose a degree instead of a diploma course. Next see what degree you want. A BSc or BTech?
If you want to study a BSc the costs are relatively less and you can also complete the degree in three years. For this the basic eligibility criteria is to have studied biology, physics, chemistry at 12th level. Physics and maths are usually exemption subjects but biology and chemistry are 100% mandatory for a BSc level. Alternatively if you want to study a BTech, it is a four year professional engineering degree and the costs may be a little high compared to BSc. BSc usually costs less than a lakh for all three years but a BTech usually costs more than 2 lakhs for all four years, depending on the college where you want to study. To study a BTech, maths and biology are mandatory subjects and there is no excuse on this. If you choose to study at government colleges for BTech then you should also appear for the national/ state level entrance test like AIIMS/ CET and if you are placed in government colleges your tuition fee will also be very less.
Finally i advice you to study 11th and 12th very well and get high scores and prepare for entrance tests well and get placed in a college that offers degree level Biotechnology.
