I will be completing my class XII next year (2014). Will it be a good option if I go for Commercial Pilot Training? If so, then which one of the two is better - Bombay Flying Club, or Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Academy? Will I get a job immediately after completion of the course? And if not, then what are the other options? I dont want to pursue engineering as my career.

Dear Student,

If you have the right aptitude , interests and personality traits to be a commercial pilot., then you should surewly go for commercial pilot training. Some of the skills and attributes to be acommercial pilot are :-

Strong physical and mental agility
Long Concentration Span

Ability to think out of the box
Problem solving nature
Ability to take quick and rational decisions

To become a commercial pilot in India, one has to first possess a student pilot license ( SPL). To get the SPL, aspirant should have passed class 10th , aged at least 16 years and should register at a flying club which is recognized by Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Government of India. Registration requires a medical certificate, security clearance and a bank guarantee. An oral examination in subjects such as air regulations, aviation meteorology, air navigation, engine ( technical and specific) follows the registration. Successful completion of the examination entitles you for a SPL certificate. The second step is private pilot license. PPL training include sixty hours of flying of which about 15 hours are dual flights, that is accompanied by the flight instructor and at least 30 hours of solo flights apart from five hours of cross country flying. A commercial pilot license may be obtained only after PPL has been acquired. To obtain a commercial pilot license 250 hours of flying ( including 60 hours of PPL flying) is necessary. Besides that you have to undergo medicinal fitness test which is held at New Delhi and an examination which consists of Air regulations, aviation meteorology, air navigation, technical , planning and communication in the form of radio and wireless transmission. With the CPL, a pilot can take up any professional assignment. There are several DGCA- approved flying academies where one can do a CPL course. After getting a Cpl , one has to fly at least 1500 hours on different aircraft and become familiar with the instrument rating to get the airline transport pilot license. Many aspirants try to get the license faster by joining schools abroad. Life is hard for pilots at an entry level
Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Udaan Academy is better than Bombay Flying Club for the training.
