Hello There,

Firstly it is one of a unique career option available
Secondly it has a lot of scope.

As the name suggests Maths would involves computations, study of numbers and no doubt calculations.
It has scope all over in every industry right from accounting to inventory.

As such after 12th, you can opt for a B.Sc in Math with statistics and join business firms or finance industry as an account auditor or financial advisors.
With the help of statistics you can get into diagnostics profile just like the geoinformatics profile.

Or else in case you are interested in computers you can opt for B.Sc IT (MATH) being compulsory or opt for computer software related jobs.

Other option which is a common option which includes Teaching. After graduation, opt for a B.Ed program and start teaching in schools or junior college.
Incase you wish to be a professor, you would have to clear your NET / SET after completing your PG Degree.

Hope this helps.
Wish you good luck..

Dear Aspirant,

Thanks for writing to www.CareeGuide.com!

Your query implies that you love mathematics and solving sums is your passion. Numbers intrigue you and learning formulas and tables excite you. Right?

Mathematics is divided into two field of studies: theoretical or pure mathematics, and applied mathematics. Theoretical mathematics or pure mathematics is the study of the basic concepts and structures that underlie mathematics. Applied mathematics is a branch of mathematics that concerns itself with mathematical methods that are typically used in science, engineering, business and industry.

Mathematics opens a diverse range of careers. Promising career pathways include academicians/teachers, actuaries, mathematicians, economists, computer scientists. Following are key career options

  1. Actuarial Science: Actuarial Science analyses statistical data like mortality rates, injuries, birth rates, retirement rates, etc. to predict probability of occurrences and the costs associated with each event. The actuaries also have to create new policies for people and firms to minimise the risks associated and also the financial effects of these given scenarios. It has big scope in insurance industries.

Qualification: A graduate degree in mathematics, economics, statistics or actuarial science, or field related to business like finance.

  1. Chartered Accountant: Chartered Accountants have wonderful scope. A Chartered accountant is somebody who specializes in accounting, auditing and taxation.

Qualification: After 12th, need to qualify CPT, IPCC and final CA exam conducted by The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). ICAI conducts CPT exams in June and December, IPCC and Final examinations in May and November each year.

  1. Engineering: A highly fulfilling career is in engineering field. Amongst all engineering, software and computer science is most attractive for mathematics students. In both engineering field, they apply the theories and principles of computer science and mathematical analysis to create, test, analyse and evaluate the software applications and systems that make computers work.

Qualification: After 12th, qualify JEE or engineering entrance exams. Graduate engineering course is for four years.

  1. Operations Research Analysts: Operations research is an interdisciplinary branch of applied mathematics and formal science. It uses advanced analytical methods such as mathematical modeling, statistical analysis, and mathematical solutions to complex decision-making problems. This helps managers to make better decisions, develop policies and solve problems. For this field, need a thorough knowledge of strong quantitative and computer skills; advanced knowledge in mathematics.

Qualification: Graduate and Masters in statistics, or population studies.

  1. Banking: Banking is also emerging field has lot of scope. Jobs in banking field involve aiding people to build fortunes in their respective life and businesses. One can work in any one of the areas such as Banking- accountant, customer service, front desk, cash handling, account opening, mortgage loan underwriter, loan processing officer, back end operations, product marketing and sales executive, recovery officer, retail asset manager, property appraiser and customer service executive.

Qualification: Graduate and post-graduate in banking, MBA in finance, Mcom in accountancy. There are many specialized courses offered by private banks in banking and insurance.

They do research, come up with problems and solutions, etc. If you' rel="nofollow"re fascinated by Sir Isaac Newton or Archimedes of Syracuse, then this is the field for you.

Qualification: Post-graduate and PhD in mathematics.

  1. Academics: A maths teacher is always on demand as this is considered one of the main subjects throughout schooling.
