A profession of a doctor is a very noble one. They get a lot of respect in the society. People trust a lot in doctors and risk their lives with them. An MBBS course requires a lot of hard work and dedication. Students work day and night to become a doctor. Naturally, the study of the human body is not an easy task. Every nerve and cell of the body has to be studied. New and new problems are being found in people of all ages all around the globe. Doctors, with their intense study and research, find the solutions to these problems so that the lives of the innocent people who are subject to such dangerous diseases can be protected. They are supposed to strong enough to witness the wounds and injuries of their patients and deal with them with care and patience.

One needs a steady heart to hear to the problems of the patient and to treat their wounds. Now to pursue this field, one either needs to take Physics, Chemistry and Biology as their subjects or Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in 12th standard. Some students also take all the four subjects together and keep one of them as an additional subject (either Mathematics or Biology).  If the person has opted for PCB, then the following career options are available to him/her:

Physics, Chemistry and Biology are required if the candidate wants to pursue medicine and surgery. On the other hand, PCM is required if he/ she wants to go in for the engineering field. The most popular career options for people who choose PCB are:

 

 

  • Medicine: Candidates can opt for general practitioner in medicine or specialise in some particular field. The courses for medicine are for 5 years. The student has the option to Master’s in his chosen field after graduation. But the first and foremost thing required for thing required for to enter into the medical colleges in India is to clear the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET). This is an all India test for medical students wanting to gain admission into the medical schools of any state in the country. This test is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Examinations (CBSE). It gives 4 marks for every correct answer and deducts 1 for every incorrect one.
  • Dentistry: This is another branch of medicine which is opted by the students. For this too, the candidate has to clear the NEET exam. Getting into a dental college is not an easy task. The student can go in for further specialisation after 5 years of graduation.
  • Pharmacy: Pharmacists are the people who specialise in drugs and become chemists. This field of health sciences focuses on safe and effective use of medication. B. Pharm is the degree which the student gets after graduation.
  • Biological Sciences: It includes topics such as Cell Biology, Neuroscience, Evolutionary Biology, and Ecology. It deals with the study of living things. The student can opt for post-graduate degree in this field after graduation.
  • Physiotherapy: This is yet another field which opted by the medical graduates. The student has to obtain an undergraduate degree, that is, Bachelor’s in Physiotherapy from reputed College or University.
  • Optometry: This profession is related to the eyes. Eyes are a very important part of the human body and its study is extremely complicated and difficult. Degrees such as Bachelor of Optometry, Master of Optometry and Doctor of Philosophy in Optometry are given to the students who excel in this field.

  • Biomedical Engineering: This career uses the engineering principles in the field of medicine. A Biomedical Engineering (BME) degree is obtained by the students who do their graduation in this field. All the four subjects that are Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology are required to pursue a career in this field.

Therefore, a lot of career options are available for the PCB as well as the PCM students. The main option for the students with Mathematics as the main subject is Engineering. This field gives many options to the students. They may opt for Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, etc. The main thing that is to be considered is the interest of the student. If he/she has a technical bend, then the Engineering field is a good option. The student should take PCM in such a case. However, if the student wants to do something for the society by the way of protecting people, then medical is the right career option for the student. He/ she should opt for PCB in this case.
