Hello My Dear Software Engineering Aspirant,

You have asked a very valid and good question. Generally non-science students cannot do a computer technical or software course is the preception in the minds of the students and parents.

I am an Educationist and have been in this field for more than seven years now and have counselled many students from diverse fields of commerce / engineering / finance / law / management, etc.

I am glad that you approached CareerGuide for seeking guidance to your good query. I am happy and would like to compliment you for thinking about your future career before taking admission to the college.

You can very well opt for commerce stream in your first year of your junior college. Being a software engineer is little bit difficult since to be recuited as a software 'engineer', you definitely need to be an engineer first and hence for that you need to opt for science stream in 11th and HSC and the get admitted to engineering stream.

You said it right, in 11th it is very better if you opt for maths and in HSC you have maths as one of the subjects. With this you can definitely opt for IT industry.

Commerce stream students can definitely opt for IT courses after their HSC or after their graduation.

After HSC Commerce, you can opt for BCA. (Bachelor in Computer Application). Since you would have taken maths, you can definitely get admitted to BCA course. BCA is a very good foundation course for entering into the IT field successfully. On the basis of BCA, you can also get jobs, however they will not be of high level or high paying.

You can complete your BCom by any subject and after the graduation you can opt for MCA course directly. Masters in Computer Application is a renowned course and very liked by the corporate industry.

The above option you can choose after tou think for your self. Both options are very good mediums to enter into the IT industry and make a career.

Considering your interest and passion for IT industry, I would personally suggest you to opt for BCA after your HSC Commerce with Maths.

Best Luck.
