Dear Aspirant,
Thanks for visting at CareerGuide.com!!!
Nice to know that you have finalised 'Commerce' as your stream after 10th.
Yours is a very informed question.
Taking Maths as a subject helps you if you are planning to do courses like Chartered Accountancy, Cost Accountancy, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Financial Planning, Securities Market related courses, etc. These courses need quantitative aptitude and a little bit of mastery to be good CA, CFA, CFP, etc.
However this does not mean that to be successful CA, CFA or CFP, you compulsorily need to take Maths as a subject in Commerce till 12th.
Therefore, if you are planning for finance related courses in future, then taking maths will be beneficial. If you are not planning for finance courses and feel to go for courses like CS, MBA HR/Marketing, Law, etc.
Best wishes!
Hi Shrashti,
Thank you for choosing CareerGuide.com!!!
Hope your class 10 exams went of quiet well and now you are in a relaxed mode for this entire month.
Your question is something which is to be thought about very essentially for all students in your category.
Talking about Maths as a subject is such that it is a universal subject which will always support you when you enter any stream or subject in your college level.
No doubt Maths is the backbone of the financial sector in the future and you would easily be able to enroll to any courses in this sector but at the same it is not compulsory.
I would personally advice you take up maths such that if after class 12, because if you wish to change streams/subject you would always have the additional benefit to do so without any compromise.
Best Wishes for the future.
Hi There,
Thanks for approaching consellors at CareerGuide.com!!!
As both the counselors above have mentioned, I am not repeating their words again.
The advantage of taking Math as a subject apart from being in the Financial sector, you can also for Computer, i.e, a BCA program, where the eligibility is 12th Math as one of the subjects.
So if you are interested in Software application or programming then 12th commerce with Math would be helpful.
Wish you good luck........
If you are choosing commerce, you can study various topics like Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, etc. through which, You can look for a job as an accountant or pursue a course in CA, ICWA, UGC NET, etc. after completing the course in commerce. You can also opt for streams like Arts and Humanities. The topics covered under this are History, Geography, Sociology, Psychology, English, Hindi, etc. You can look for teaching jobs as TGT, or PGT after graduation in the Arts stream. You can also apply for civil service exam after completing graduation in both arts and commerce. You should opt for a stream in which you have an interest and where you can show your caliber.
Career prospectsJob opportunities exist in banks, financial institutions, outsourcing firms, insurance companies, and audit firms. “A fresh Commerce graduate can start out as account assistant, in CA firm or any other small organization”
“CA practicing firms like TR Chada and Co” Thakur Vaidya Nath Aiyar and Co and Singh Suri and Co absorb a lot of BCom students. These firms usually employ grads for auditing as well as taxation assignments, accounting, and research work. Corporates also recruit fresh BCom students from campuses.
In the banking sector, foreign banks typically prefer skilled Commerce graduates. In nationalized banks, a fresh graduate is eligible to take a Probationary Officer exam. Government offices recruit non-experienced candidates in assistant grade. The demand for graduates is high for sales and marketing functions by banks and insurance.
Commerce graduates also work as researchers, teachers, and Assistant professors. Eighty percent of management faculty possesses an MCom degree.
UGC NET Exam 2021 is necessary to become an assistant professor.
I personally feel there is excellent scope for commerce graduates. The general attitude of glorifying science and undermining Commerce and Humanities should stop. Commerce graduates can choose a career in accounting, audit, taxation, banking, finance, insurance, investment banking, mutual funds, capital markets, equity research, and retail.
Good luck ahead!!
Thankyou
