Dear Aspirant,

Thanks for approaching us at CareerGuide.com!

Please remember that not everybody in a company involved in international services or production goes abroad. If you are aiming for a career keeping this in mind, you are getting diverted to a black hole.

However would surely tell you the jobs which involve international travel:

  1. IT jobs (Project Managers, Programmers, etc.)
  2. Travel Tourism jobs where international tours are arranged
  3. MNC companies (manufacturing, production, R&D)
  4. Financial Institutions (where foreign clients are involved)
  5. Marketing (International business expansion, exports, imports)
  6. Event Management (events abroad)

To be best sure of what suits you for your career, I would suggest you to undergo an online psychometric test from CareerGuide which will help you understand yourself in respect of your strengths, weaknesses, emotional quotient, etc. and will exactly tell you which stream is good for you.
You can then call counsellors to discuss.

Best wishes,

Dr. Anand Wadadekar

Hello

Travelling abroad as part of job can be viewed in two ways.
1. Settling in abroad for over a period of time to finish an international assignment and then return to India. This can be most often from at least 6 months to five or more years.
2. Or, doing short term frequent trips as part of your job. In this case, it is usually for a week up to a month. But this sort of trips will never go beyond 3 months.

You should be clear on what type of job you want from the above two. Also ask yourself if travelling abroad is for money or for exposure. If you want to be abroad for money then choose the first option. If you want it for exposure but not inclined so much on money, then choose the second option.

Jobs that can give you long term assignments as in the first case are IT jobs, Management consultancy, Investment consultancy like in Accounts and finance, sales and marketing. Most often you should be having a technical degree or an MBA for these kind of jobs.

In the second case, you can be a fashion photographer, wildlife photographer, nature or landscape photographer, wedding photographer, journalist, travel writer to get short term assignments. Hope this helps.

Hi There,

Aiming high is required, but it must be realistic, then only can it be fulfilled.

Before hoping for being a frequent traveler abroad, please note that apart from what anandwadadekar and appumira wrote, please note that going abroad or for comaponies to send you abroad requires a huge investments.

So here remember that you would be frequenting on the companies expenses.
The point I am trying to make here is that as a fresher, only if the organizations training department is abroad, will they send you, that too is very rare. For you to be selected to go abroad, you must have to prove yourself worth of their expenses they incur on you. Right from your work to your ability to cope with stress and your long term relationship with the company also matters.
Also while they incur your expenses of going abroad, they also charge you in-case if you dupe the organization. So before sending you, they sign a contract which differs from organization to organization.

Apart from the jobs mentioned above, I would like to add,
Pilots: If you fly international flights, you get a week stay back after the voyage.
Marine: A shippie, mainly into Cargo transportation and even the passenger cargo, gets to travel abroad and stay few days and then back and forth.

Hope this answers your query.

Wish you good luck....
