Dear Aspirant,

Thanks for approaching us at CareerGuide.com!

Glad to know that your friend is working and wishes to do MBA alongside the job. Hope she is clear that MBA will be beneficial to her. For an Engineer, an MBA is not the only course which can be done.

Which BTech she is? She can also think of Project Management certification (CAPM and PMP) of the PMI, USA, which is globally recognised project management certification and very helpful to Engineers especially.

For MBA, she will need to choose either Finance, HR, Marketing, International Business or Operations. If she chooses MBA specialisation apart from Operations, then may be she wont work as an Engineer and then she will be into finance, hr or marketing completely.

For distance MBA, I would suggest:

Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai
Symbiosis Center for Distance Learning, Pune
Sikkim Manipal University
Amity University

Best wishes,

Dr. Anand Wadadekar

Dear Ankita,

Thanks for posting your query in careerguide.com

I believe doing MBA from distance education is not bad as you are already working. Distance education is the best option for working professionals who want to add applied knowledge and skills.

Well I have questions to ask you for clarity. Your friend is working in an industry. What made her think to do MBA specifically?

Doing MBA will change the domain of work. MBA is advisable if she is interested in management field.
MBA does not gaurentee jobs.IT industry too has scope. Can't you do masters in the subject relevant to IT or any subject that can enhance your present job? There are good certifications in the IT field that would enhance her job portfolio.

She can choose appropriate specialization (HR, finance, marketing, international business) based on her interest and skills.

There are many institutes (Government as well as private) offer correspondence course. List of known institutes are already mentioned by Dr. Anand. Just ensure that the institute where you do the course is UGC recognized.

Best Wishes for Your Career!
