Oceanography is the study of the seas, its coastline , shelves and the ocean bed. It is an interdisciplinary science which is broadly divided into physical oceanography, chemical oceanography, geological oceanography and marine biology. Increased wareness regarding marine resources and their potential has created a demand for ocean specialists. Chemical oceanogrpahers research and develop such technology which will be able to recover valuable elements from sea. Geological and geophysical oceanographers study the characterstics of coastal margines for the selection of suitable location for marine structures as well as the exploration of ocean marine resources. Physical oceanogrpahers look at the relationship between the sea, the weather and the climate. Remote sensing is one of the important areas in this field. Mraine biologists study he ocean processes that control the productivity and distribution of marine life. Their work is research based and finds application in fishery sciences and biotechnological pursuits. Aquatic life is being used to develop new therapeutic agents and medicines. To pursue a career in oceanography one has to study oceanogrpahy/ marine sciences at post graduate level
