Dear Aspirant,

seems that you are a fishery scientist or soon you are going to join this field. A fishery scientist has to work as per the mandate of the organization in which he or she is working. If you are working in a university then your nature of job will be primarily teaching. Here you will be interacting with students (graduate, masters and doctoral degree) Your responsibilities will be course curriculum development, conduction of theory and practical classes.

Besides these the department may assign you other jobs such as preparation of question papers, the job of examination conduction and may internal quality parameters management.

Besides teaching you will be also doing research of your interest. Here there are two ways, either by guiding masters or doctoral degree students or by execution of independent research projects funded by funding agencies. If you are handling projects then half yearly and yearly project report writing and submission to funding agency.

In university or any research institute you will be keeping yourself busy in other academic aspects, such as conduction of workshops, seminars, conferences and trainings. Either you will be participating or organizing the event.

In private company the nature of job and responsibilities will be different. Obviously you will not be engaged i teaching but there will be routine work and some aspects of research and developmental activities. Here you will be involved in management and conservation of aquatic plants and animals . You may be given job of habitat management and exploration, though these types of activities are also likely to happen in government sector. You may be dealing with breeding, catching and storing fishes for export or food purpose. The cold chain management is a part of this, and you may look after how to keep the fishes or their products for long time with any spoilage.

The other aspects, such as training to the technical personals regarding fish cultivation, breeding (in marine or sweet water) catching and then preserving till they are consumed. You may have to under take some training programs to train the personals.

Now regarding time, it all depends upon organization to organization and the government sector has one hour less (usually) duty hours compared to private organization.

Good luck...
