Hi Gitika,
IAS, means Indian Administrative services, which is a part of Civil service exams.
To appear for the Civil service exams, minimum qualification required is being a Graduate, any stream.
Post that, you need to clear the Main entrance exam followed by group discussion and personal Interview.
The earlier the preparations the better it is. For the written examination, you could join coaching classes with regular practice with your studies.
As far as group discussion is concerned, Reading is a must. Read everything and anything that you could lay your hand upon. Right from history to politics to sports to logic to current affairs etc. Just not reading but being able to articulate without being argumentative and changing your view points is necessary. Thus get into the discussion mode.
For Personal Interview, prepare yourself to the most easiest to the difficult to the most stupid questions possible. Please try and answer every question logically and being a little witty.

Dear Student IAS i.e. Indian Administrative services falls under Civil services and there are so many vistas which open up if once you clear the test. The test is based on graduation as a eligibility requirement and apart from that one must have a very sound logic, mental ability and creativity to clear the test. You may choose public administration or Political science as your choicest subjects. the test takes place in two shifts. The first part is a general awareness test common for all and the second part is based on specialization. It is a tough nut to crack in one go, so one must take a proper coaching for the test to qualify it. As you have mentioned that you have just cleared your 12th class, for your graduation you may seek admission at one of these - Banaras Hindu University, varanasi,......
