Hi Vivek,
Before starting up your Engineering course you will be asked to fill your choices that you want to opt for. There are a whole lot of options or specializations that you can opt for like computer science, mechanical, electrical, electronics and communication, chemical, civil, aeronautical, petroleum, textile and fibre science, biotechnology, marine, automobile, industrial, instrumentation, metallurgic, production etc… you can choose the area of specialization depending on the interest you have in. In the first year of your engineering you will have to study the different fields but from second year you will be taught only the subjects of the specialization that you have opted for. You should carefully make the choice of the specialization because it is really difficult to change ones specializations after you have opted for it. This privileges only given to some of the students i.e. who are the college toppers. So, as you have said you are really confused in choosing the course then I would suggest you to take Engineering Branch Selector Test at CareerGuide.com with this test you will get an answer to which Branch of Engineering you can opt for. This report helps in matching your work interest with specific real life work situation as per different Branches of Engineering.
So keep in mind to opt for the specialization that is of your interest.
Hello VivekYou have asked a very important question that will decide your career path. In Engineering, all subjects are common for every student during first year i.e. there wont be any difference depending on branch. From second year, each branch has different subjects. In order to decide the specialization, talk with yourself and see the area of interest and see the specialization suitable for it. There are three core or mother branches namely Mechanical, Civil and Electrical and there are many derived branches namely Electronics, computerscience, information technology, automobile, marine, biotechnology etc. eg. A computer engineer works on coding, developing softwares, testing etc. This needs analytical skills and logical thinking. For civil and mechanical branch, you must be good at technical drawing. It also includes imagining and working on 2D-3D drawings of objects. Choose it very carefully as you need to fill up the specialization option in admission form
Dear Aspirant,
Glad to know actually that you are not closed minded and thinking about engineering branches neutrally. Many times students asked which Engineering branch is the best and they wish to go to that branch without thinking whether they are suitable to it or not.
I would definitely like to tell you that all engineering branches are good and have scope. Its upto you where you are interested in.
I would strongly recommend you to take the Engineering Branch Selector Test from CareerGuide.com. This is a focused psychometric test which will help you scientifically to arrive at the decision and remove the confusion.
Best wishes
