As such no qualification is needed to be a writer.
Anyone with

• good command over language,
• good communication skills,
• imagination ,
• innovativeness,
• creativity skills
• being well read
  can become a writer.
  eg. Chetan Bhagat, though from an engineering background, is the most famous Author.

Though these skills can be developed, but if you wish to know the ART of writing, you can opt for a course in Journalism.

You can after 12th any stream, opt for a BMM course, eligibility to which is an entrance exam. During the course, which is a 3 years course, in the final year you could opt for Journalism as your specialization.

What you can start to notice the writing ability in you is, begin to write a blog and ask for expert comments. You can also send your writings to the editor, who can give you a feedback, though it is possible now only from a book publishing house only.

It is always advised to support our career aspirations with relevant education and exposure. Ideally , to become a professional writer you need to have a degree in Journalism . It encompasses the occupations of writing, reporting , editing, photographing or broadcasting news.Training in journalism is available in many universities in the country and also at many autonomous institutes specializing in media studies. Most of the courses in journalism are postgraduate diploma or degree courses of one to two year's duration for which graduates are eligible. Admission is usually on the bais of an entrance test which evaluates power of expression, proficiency in language , general awareness , analytical and verbal reasoning skills and overall communication skills. Some of the universities like Delhi University, University of Mumbai, Symbiosis International University are offering undergraduate degree courses in mass media & journalism. Some of the top institutes offering courses in journalism are :Indian Institute of Mass Communication , New Delhi, Asian College of Journalism , Chennai, AJK Mass Communication Research Center, New Delhi, Xavier Institute of Communication, Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan Mumbai.

A journalist may write for a national newspaper , a glossy magazine, a professional journal, a trade paper or in radio or television. A journalist may hold a field job as a reporter or correspondent or a desk job as a sub editor or departmental/ section editor.

While some writers choose for a journalism degree, others pick an associate or bachelor's degree in English with a writing or creative writing emphasis. Writers need to write in addition to enrolling in conventional degree programs
