Let’s explore a normal daily routine of a registered nurse for whom each and every day brings new challenges in her life.
The first thing for a nursing profession is to wake up early in the morning, even after overtime shifts and emergency appointments. After reaching the workplace, one has to take reports of all the patients, review doctor’s notes and orders to execute. One should have to make sure if there is any emergency and he has to look after that patient at first. After that, one has to greet patients with a smile and give 8 am morning medicines to them as prescribed by the doctor. Taking care of a patient in every aspect including sponzing, moving, positioning, transferring, and feeding all are morning time duties of a nurse. Nursing is about love and compassion that one shows while taking care of his patients.
“People will forget what you said, they will forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel!” - Maya Angelou
Next, One has to make patient assessments between 9 to 9:30 am, and to prepare some documents at desktop before giving 10 am medicines to patients. It’s time for administering medications chart and to make sure that one has given all medicines to each patient on time and in the meantime, make a record of the new patients keeping them at the priority along with existing patients. One has to assist the doctors on round and follow the commands given by them. Nurses have to assist doctors in surgical and clinical lab testing, take samples for tests and keep a record of the same time to time and give all the updates to the doctor instantly.
At 3 pm it’s a time for lunch now. The role is to make sure that all patients have taken their lunch on time and after that give them the afternoon medicines on time. Along with routine work, one has to attend new patients if any. If a patient is ready to get discharged from a hospital, documenting all the patient record on a desktop and to complete the billing process is also a part of a nurse’s life.
Final touch-ups:
At 6:30 pm, it’s time to final touch-ups. Finishing all day reports of all patients, now it’s time to hand over them to the nurses working on night shifts and to make them clear about the whole process they follow up during the day time and told them what to follow up during a night. The aim of a nurse life is none other than to save one’s life.
“Save one life you’re a hero, save one hundred lives and you’re a nurse.” - Unknown
