HI There,

Interesting question. The answer to your question lies in the title itself.

Both a nutritionists as well as a dietitian are responsible for helping individuals maintain good or rather healthy eating habits by maintaining a proper diet.

Though the difference is negligible, but in-case if you wish to see the minute difference.
In layman's term, when we wish to loose weight we opt for a dietitian, whereas knowing the nutrient content is the work of a nutrient.
In directly it is the same person who alternatively assumes the role depending on the client and their issues.

Initially, fitness was associated with the term Nutritionists, mainly for the athletes. Their fitness regime is mostly monitored through a Nutritionists.

And we as layman who are diet conscious approach a dietitian.

But please note they are the same term and profession.
Since even to loose wight we need to know the nutritional value so that we do not fall unhealthy.

Hope this clears the terminology. Also please note that in terms of qualifications, there is no separate course. University provides them as a B.Sc in Nutrition and Dietetics, a 3 years course

Wish you good luck....

Dear Aspirant,

Nutritionist and dietician are different. Although both Nutrition and a Dietetics are interrelated, activities they perform are different. In India, both terms are used interchangeably.

Key differentiators between Nutritionist and a Dietitian

A nutritionist is a person who advises people on dietary matters relating to health, well-being and optimal nutrition. Nutritionists advise individuals the quantity and type of foods that people usually intake to increase or decrease their body mass. Their job profile includes guiding patients or athletes on health problems, allergies, health plans and diets for weight loss and so on.

Education to be nutritionist:
Graduation in Foods and Nutrition
Post-graduation in Food and Nutrition
MPhil
PhD

Nutritionists work closely with gymnastics, swimming, or athletics, catering departments of star hotels, recreation clubs and so on.

Dietitians are experts in food and nutrition who advise the kind of food that a patient suffering from some disease should take. They help promote good health through proper eating. They also supervise the preparation and service of food, develop modified diets, participate in research, and educate individuals and groups on good nutritional habits.

Education to be dietician:

Graduation in clinical dietetics, or dietetics and nutrition
Post-graduation
MPhil
PhD

Dieticians are engaged in clinical and health aspects. They work in hospitals or have own clinical practice.

In nutshell, nutritionists use preventive approach while dieticians use clinical/curative approach. Nutritionists work with healthy people while dieticians are more engaged with people with illness/disease or clinical problem. Dieticians are also engaged in laboratory research on diet pattern and food science.

Hope this is helpful. Best Wishes,
