Generally the academic record will not matter if you want to go for the job of writing. One thing that you must understand is that writing in itself is an art and it has rarely to do anything how you performed in your exams. If you write really well, nobody is going to ask you what did you score in your school or college. However there will be few instances when the employers might consider your academic record.
