Dear Naman,

Thanks for writing to www.careerguide.com! There are good job opportunities for Agriculture Engineers. After BTech, you have three options: (1) Job (2) Higher studies and (3) Consulting work/business.

Jobs:

Jobs are available in government, semi-government & public sector organizations, and private sector organizations (like agribusiness firms, food processing and retail industry, research organizations and laboratories, banks and financial corporations).

Government jobs: The Agriculture Departments of different State Governments offer jobs to B.E./B.Tech graduates. In general, Government department or State Government conducts exams. I request you to refer to Employment News for news related to recruitment.

You can also explore opportunities in Semi-Government or Government aided agencies following areas:

  • Food Laboratories
  • Food Research Departments
  • Dairy Boards
  • Coir Board etc.

Private sector: Fertilizer firms, Research and development firms, Agriculture Machinery manufacturing firms, Food Products Processing and Manufacturing firms etc. are the prime recruiters.

Higher Studies

You can opt for higher studies in the area of your interest withing Agriculture domain. If you are interested in research and academics, higher studies is essential.

Research: You can identify your specialization and do MTech. After MTech, you can work with research organizations or research department of corporates/government/semi-Government institutes.

Academic sector: You can work as Junior Research Fellow/Research Officer or Teaching Assistant after ME/MTech. If you want to get into academics, then you need to do ME/MTech and PhD. You can start your career in academics as a Research fellow or Teaching Assistant and reach upto Professor level.

Consultation/Bussiness: If you are very clear about doing business or consulting work, you can start business in agricultural field, for example, taking dealership of agricultural products, marketing products etc. It is highly recommended that you should start business after at-least 2 years or more work experience in the field.

Hope this is helpful. If you still have queries, feel free to revert. I would be happy to help you clarify your queries.

Best Wishes,

Dear Aspirant,

I would recommend that if possible you should try to get into agri business. For this, after BTech Agriculture, you can go for MBA Agri-Business Management. This will give you learning of business in agriculture.

Ofcourse, apart from this, you can go for jobs in research, farm related industries, food technology, etc.

Best wishes
