Dear aspirant

Biotechnologist
Thank you for approaching counsellors at Meracareerguide. Your interest in medicine is amazing and for this reason you should have been studying in a science related group at school level. This means you should have definitely included Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology at school level. For a career in medicine there might be some excuse by private universities if you have not studied physics and maths at school level but studying biology and chemistry is mandatory all over India. A career in medical has relatively many options for you to take.
1. MBBS
2. BDS
3. MABS
4. MHBS
5. Physiotherapy
6. Pharmacist

Above degrees are routes within medical career. Studying these degrees could be possible any where in India. However these days studying at Armed force medical college has been highly recognisable in India considering its central government affiliation and job guarantee system. for As you have mentioned your desire to study at Armed forces medical college, I highly recommend you to take it. This college runs three courses at Bachelor level -

1. MBBS - Five and a half year program including one year internship. They have 105 seats for boys and 30 seats allocated for girls. They have certain eligibility criteria and they expect each candidate to have folowed this criteria.
  • Passed 12th class at first attempt and
  • Also compulsorily studied English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCM). If you have not studied even one subject from the above list of four subjects then you are not eligible to apply for MBBS at Armed forces medical college. I have seen students who have studied Biotechnology in place of physics and their applications were rejected. So make sure you have definitely studied the four above mentioned subjects at your 12th standard.
  • Maths is an exemption at 12th standard level but Maths is compulsory at 10th class.
  • Physics, Chemistry and Biology aggregate should be above 60% and no individual score should be less than 50%. If you have scores even in one subject 49% but have a 90% in another subject, you are not eligible to apply.
  • Pass in English with a minimum 50% at 12th class
  • Not married or will not get married through out the education is mandatory. I have known a student who studied MBBS and got married in her third year and later the university dismissed her from the course and she was also liable to pay some fine in lakh. So if you have plans to get married while studying, studying at Armed college is not suitable for you.
  • Finally minimum age of admission should be 17 years and not even like 16 years 10 months.

The good thing about this course is you have a job guarantee. Upon starting MBBS you and your parent/ guardian will sign an agreement that post MBBS graduation you will work for Armed medical forces and not engage anywhere else. The vacancies may arise any where in India and you should be prepared to work at the posted area. If you dont comply with this rule, you will be fined for the cost of education on you.

Apart from MBBS, they also have Nursing and aPara medical course at a BSc degree level in Paramedical technology. They have internal specialisations like Laboratory technician, Radiography technician, Radiotherapic technician, Cardio, neuro, blood transfusion technology, optometry, perfusionist, operation theatre technician, endoscopy technician, community medicine and emergency medicine.

The main advantage with the armed forces college is you have a job guarantee and it is deemed to be a central government profession. You can certainly choose this. All the best.

Dear Aspirant,

Choosing a medical field is a very good option, you are extremely good in biology, chemistry and mathematics.

There is no exactly Airforce medical college but there is Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) where you can study MBBS and also get a job alongside in the Armed Forces (Army, Navy and Airforce). This College is in Pune.

If you are interested in a mixture of discipline, wars, uniforms and service to the nation, then AFMC will be the best. But you wish to become a normal physician or surgeon in the city, then a normal MBBS degree from a recognised University will be good.

Best wishes
