Dear friend

It is good to know about your academic plan, having done b.tech in ECE and opting physics is not a bad idea. but you must explore the emerging alliances of physics like msc in nuclear physics, msc in nanotech, msc in theoretical physics, msc in astronomy, msc in atmospheric physics, msc in photonics, msc in nanoscience and nanotechnology, msc in energy and material sciences and many more interesting program worldwide available. One must explore the subject which has following scopes:

1. world wide acceptability so must see the modules detailing
2. Having relevancy with with your background
3. Industrial application
4. Having multidisciplinary scope

As per above statements you should explore the relevant host institutes where mentioned subject is being offered / accomodated in true sense and giving three dimensional features of the subject, some of the top rated institutes are given below for your interest:

Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA having overall 96.6 rating world wide
University of Cambridge, UK having 93.7 rating point
Harvard University, USA having 91.4 rating points
Stanford University, USA having 91.1 rating points

Likewise many universities abroad gained score as per the set benchmarks and parameters, we must know what are the criteria for listing of top rating: excellence in research, quality, research citations, funding from national and international agencies, profile of research scientists and professors doing research etc

Indian universities those are best in physics, keeping international factors into the consideration which make you perfect and give you broad exposures:

Indian Institute of Technology -Rurki, Mumbai, Delhi and Kharagpur
National Institute of Technology-Bhopal, Rourkela
Birla Institute of Technology-BITS pilani
Andhra University
Delhi University
Jawaharlala Nehru University (JNU) New Delhi
IISc Bangalore

You need to asses your qualification and CGPA obtained at graduate level and draw the similarity with the different institutes at national and international level and must know the admission criteria for msc. For american and uk universities you have to clear GRE/TOEFEL/IELTS only then you can apply for your MS program in fact they have different integrated program at graduate level so look at the requirements which are available online.

Indian Universities and institutes have also different criteria update yourself and go for that.

Placement in all msc physics program is very good with descent package but my suggestion to you u must go for ms-phd integrated program which will give u complete package to be a renounced.

good luck
manoj
