Dear friend, many thanks for your question. A physicist is a scientist who deals and study physics. The job opportunities for physicist and earning, it all depends upon the nature of job, academic qualifications, place of work and specialization in physics subject. In fact the physics is a diverse area of study and scientist have been forced to focus on smaller areas of this discipline. This is known as specialization. The main sub subjects are;
Acoustics; study of sound and sound waves
Astronomy; study of space
Astrophysics; study of physical properties of objects in space
Atomic physics; the study of atoms, specially the electron properties of the atoms
Biophysics; the study of physics in living system
Chemical physics; the study of physics in chemical system
Computational physics; application of numerical methods to solve physical problems for which a quantitative theory already exists
Cosmology; study of universe as a whole
Crystallography; study of crystals and their structure
Electromagnetism; study of electrical and magnetic fields, which are two aspects of the same phenomenon
Electrophysics; study of electrons in electrical circuit
Fluid dynamics / Fluid mechanics; the study of the physical properties of the fluids

Geophysics; study of physical properties of the earth
High energy physics; study of physics in extremely high energy pressure
Laser physics; the study of physical properties of the laser
Mathematical physics; applying mathematical formulas to solve problems in physics.

Physicists
The job opportunities for a physicist are in colleges, universities, institutes and governmental laboratories. Here the physicist gets and entry level of lecturer, assistant professor, assistant scientist and technical officer. Person holding a doctoral degree will have better job opportunities compared to a person holding only maters degree. In academic field the National Eligibility Certificate (NET) awarded by UGC-CSIR is very important. The starting salary is in the pay scale of Rs 15600-37100 plus academic grade pay (AGP) of Rs 5400 per month. The persons with more years of experience and additional qualifications (research papers published, book chapters, books written, students supervised) will give advantage, and the person may be given higher pay scale. In private companies a physicist with good knowledge of computers or information technology will get good amount at entry level. The person may get Rs. 80,000 to Rs 1,20,000 per month depending upon the growth of the company.
The physicist in western universities and middle east will earn much more than in Indian scenario. It all depends upon you, where do you wish to work, in India or abroad. In western hemisphere, the physicist can do wonderful research work, besides earning a handsome amount.
With all my best wishes

Good Luck...
