Dear aspirants, first of all I wold like to congratulate you that you have cleared final goal of your career on 10+2 class level . As per your query you have given just 10+2 exam and you are thinking for your career and want to be an IAS officer. Civil Service is very good and lucrative service in India. Every year lakhs of students appear in Civil Service Exam . As you are in 10+2 only, its very good time to think about Civil Service.

Eligibility of Civil Service exam is graduation in any stream. You start graduation first and prepare yourself for Civil Service exam along with graduation. Before starting graduation, you must be aware about structure of Civil Service exam. Civil Service exam is conducted every year by Union Public Service Commission, New Delhi with three steps. On first step, there are two exam of General Studies and Reasoning, on Second step there are various exam like General Studies, two optional paper, essay and two languages and on third step one has to face interview.

Now I would like to suggest you that which optional paper you want to opt for Civil Service exam, take these subjects in your graduations, so that you can study thoroughly these subjects and get help in Civil service exam. During graduation focus on general studies and practice for essay writing. Whatever subjects, you want to opt, its up to you only but you go with your interest. For civil Service exam, there is no good or bad subjects, its up to you and your interest and your command on subjects. for getting success in Civil service exam, you must be aware about something of everything in this world and everything about something. For preparation of interview, you should be open minded, fluent in speaking, and having good perspective about everything.

Good Luck!

Hello My Dear,

I am very excited and proud to read that you are passionate about Civil Services just when you are about to pass HSC exams. I really liked this attitude of yours and the way you have decided and thought about your future career path. This is really commendable. I am glad that you thought of approaching CareerGuide.com for seeking guidance to your confusion and dilemma.

My Dear, your passion for civil services can be clearly felt through your question and therefore I would strongly suggest you NOT to look for any other course which will divert your focus and concentration. Mass communication will not directly help you in civil services since the job which you will be doing after becoming an IAS, will be of administration and regulation.

Any gradaution can help in clearling the IAS examination and what you need to do is choose the right optional paper in the entrance of IAS so that you are already at comfort domain knowledge wise.

I would like you to continue with your science background and complete your science graduation (BSc) with good marks and percentages, since graduation marks are also taken into accoutn while you give the various stages of selection for IAS.

What I would suggest is since you are in HSC, start reading general and current affairs and side by side concentrate on your science graduation studies. When you reach the last year of your graduation, it would be very better if you join a professional training institute which coaches for preparation of UPSC examination. Joining the coaching will give you confidence, will make you study in a disciplined manner, you can ask queries and get support.

Best Luck My Dear and we at MCG are hoping to see you as a IAS one day. Dont forget me and us then!!! :)
