Dear friend, many thanks for your question, you are well studied person and your academic background has lot of job scope in India and abroad. It does not matter that your friends are well placed in multi national companies and you were working in marketing field. Since you are a chemical engineer, you have lot many opportunities in governmental sector and private organization.

In private organization, you have job opportunities in chemical plants, beverage industries, and specially in petrochemical sector.

In government sector you can make entry after doing post graduation in chemical engineering or subject related to your bachelor degree. Sine in government sector specially in academic field in colleges, institutes and universities the entry level is of lecturer, assistant scientist or assistant professor. Therefore the basic degree of eligibility is a post graduate degree. Even in government laboratories and other sectors such as BHEL, refineries, etc the chemical engineers are appointed after graduation degree.

I know one of my friend who is chemical engineer, worked for long time in Reliance, Jamnagar, Gujarat refinery. Later he joined for post gradate program in information technology, this widened his job field and he went to Gulf Country in a petrochemical refinery.

Same thing you can also do, if you do not wish, dont go for post graduation, but there are lot many opportunities in India and specially in Gulf Countries for a chemical engineer.

Now don't look back that you could not pass the GATE and your friends did that. If you are really interested than you can get admission in other universities. It does not mean that a person obtained a degree in National Institute of Technology (NIT) or IIT will only have bright future or better job aspects. Therefore, you join any university or institute from where you can pursue your post graduate program.

Let me tell you some practical thing, I have worked as scientist in Gulf country for eight years. I have met many persons from Asian countries and specially from India, who had only bachelor degree or diploma in some engineering field. Those guys are well settled and working on very good positions. Monetary wise they are earning much much higher than their counter part in India. Therefore, you can also think to plan your career from this angle also.

Good Luck...

Dear Friend

Thank you very much for contacting CareerGuide.com. My friend first you come out from this negativity which could be fatal for your career if you keep on sinking in this negative and fearful pan where no one is benefited. Try to make a note that why one should think negative what is the consequence of that -------zero-----minus zero------just eliminate it now and take a long shower of water which will give you positive energy and then start writing the future plain in a meaningful manner which must be simple and achievable.

As you have done B.Tech in Chemical Engineering where you could not justify the course and for that you and your teachers both are responsible again take it positively never blame each other and look forward to re-visit the entire course contents based on the self study if you have interest. Keep doing the job which is the source of your bread and butter, show must go not at the cost of negative energy rather you acquire positive energy which must be coming from your good act and hard labour it will give you satisfaction. Develop the self study and try to join the RD based job which will give you exposure and training both. I am going to recommend you the following things for you just do it no one can stop you but you need firmness and self belief my dear:

1. Make your CV professionally and write a good statement of purpose if you can not do then take any professional's help
2. Visit RD based industry like Indian Oil Faridabad which recruit people like you either contractual or regular try to make it one-to-one interaction. Similarly you can explore the same in your locality and give the best effort and performance never say I am weak in this and that, and never show your negative attitude as you have shown herewith your query.
3. Once you get a good job in RD take full time distance learning education at M.Tech level explore Manipal, Symbiosis, Amity etc either you opt Chemical or Management (MBA) depends on your comfortability.

If you do all these with positive aptitude then you will be a happiest person.

Good luck
