Chemical engineers build a bridge between science and manufacturing , applying the principles of chemistry and engineering to solve problems involving the production or use of chemicals. They have an option to work in Research-

research engineers work with chemists to develop new ideas and new products. They may come up with a new material or better way to produce existing products. The mass production of antibiotics for example was made possible by chemical engineers in research.Design- Design engineers create the process that converts a raw material into a final product. Chemists invented many synthetic fibres we use today, but chemical engineers designed the plants that product them at affordable cost. Development- Chemical engineers look for ways to improve new or existing processes. Production- The manufacture of chemicals requires continuous supervision. Technical Sales- Why are our product doing what it is supposed to do for our customers. Could our new product be used more economically than current materials. Why did that new paint peel from one house. Sales engineers answer such questions. People skills, as well as technical ability are very important for these chemical engineers. Management- many chemical engineers are promoted to management positions. while less involved in technology , they make policy and business decisions, train new engineers , and solve human rather than technical problems. Teaching- Chemical engineers can also work as technical writers, teachers and professors in fields related to the process industries. Chemicals engineers can find employment in :-Petroleum , Chemical Pharmaceutical companies Healthcare industry Design, construction, pul & paper , petrochemicals, food processing, microelectronics , polymers, biotechnology , environmental health and safety industry Rubber, metal, cement, plastic and aerospace industry Biotechnology industry Government agencies such as the department of energy and the environment protection industry.

Hello, Management related roles are preferred for people with engineering background and very attractive if you have a job in core industry after engineering and then you go for a management education(full time or part time) Off-campus opportunities after Engineering degree can be interesting, considering you keep your job search to core industries and not to IT industry. In case you join an IT industry and get business analyst roles for company in chemical industry(very few roles, but can be possible if you have references) then that can lead you to management roles in future.

Management options are not dependent upon the branch of engineering. Considering you are in Chemical Engineering, it would be useful when you jon the job after management. you may prefer to join in a management role - marketing/ sales/ finance/ strategy... for a chemical company or may be a chemical manufacturing company. Best regards, Aaloka
