Hi Meena,
Since you have mentioned you are not research oriented, then opting for a Biotechnology course is not good for you, since it is a completely research oriented field.
But before making a decision, I would suggests you undergo an Psychometric tests also available at Meracareerguide and then opt for any other career available.
Career cannot be chosen just for the sake of choosing. Being sure is a must.
As such for pursuing an MBA program, you need to be Graduate with atleast 50% marks in Graduation.
Before opting for an abroad Dual degree course, please do check the credentials of the course in terms of industry preference. It should not be that the degree is not valid in the Industry once you apply.
Hope this helps. Any other confusion do write back.
Wish you good luck....
Hello Meghna, I'm well aware of the fact that biotechnology is a research based career but choosing an Mba makes job opportunities of being a manager , product specialist etc in a biotech oriented company. I looked up for jobs for an mba biotech graduate and found this information
Dear Aspirant,
BioTech courses from Dubai are not recommended.
I think a field like Biotechnology, an MBA will not be useful though you may have found some positions of MBA BioTech. Ultimately its a scientific field, where technical competence is more than a managing talent.
Best Wishes
Hello Meena,
I completely agree that an MBA would give you a direct go for a managerial position whereby you can guide or direct the work and the employees.
But without a hand on experience, being a manger will noit help either.
And as Dr. Anand has said, an MBA in Biotechnology will be of little or no use.Do not get carried away with a dual degree, though agreed it saves few years, but you need to evaluate its importance from the market point of view.
As far as Dubai is concerned, I have not heard much accolades to their education system, but for the job market, they are too good.
Rest is your take.
Hope this helps you.
Wish you all the very best Meena...
Thanks Meena for writing to us.
You are confused between doing MBA biotech or MS/MBA Biotech dual degree.
The decision of doing either MBA or MS/MBA dual degree should be informed by your career objectives and career opportunities after completing the course. Keep in mind following points while taking appropriate decision:
Advantages are: - Dual degree holders are credentialed in two fields. - Dual degree holders offer a range of management and training skills as well as field- specific knowledge that can position them as future leader in their profession. - Dual degree offers two specialties and two skill sets.
Disadvantages are: - Dual degree programs are not always ranked equally. An MBA program may be stronger than the \ second program undertaken, and vice versa. - Dual programs are not in-depth. - Dual degree programs are expensive compared to single degree program. - Dual degree program are lengthy than single degree program.
Before opting for Dual degree program, consider following points:Is dual degree program accredited?Does the program offer job placements?Does the program offer internship in your specialized subject or in management? How University supports/assist students in finding job opportunities after completing dual degree course? Is cost affordable to you?Do they provide student assistanceship or allow student to work while studying?
Dual degrees can expand a candidate's career aspirations and achievements if it is done from reputed Universities. However, Employers usually seek sound subject knowledge along soft skills such as leadership/management etc.To gain soft skills you do not necessarily require to opt for dual degree. While job, if needs arise, you may take up executive programs in management or leadership from reputed organizations.
The best way to decide would be to assess your aptitude and interest to determine what are strengths you already possess and what skills you need to gain.
Questions to ponder before you take decision:1. Want to return India and work in India after completion of study? If you want to work in India than MS in Biotechnology is recommendable than dual degree.
Want to make career in Management area withing Biotechnology field? If you are aiming to get leadership/management positions within biotechnology then MS/MBA may be useful.
Do you want to join job immediately after your masters? If yes, then choose University and program that offers good job placements. Doing course from University that has good placement is recommendable.
Do you want to specialize in Biotechnology field? If yes, then better you choose MS in Biotech in specialized subject and choose University that is best in your specialized subject.
What made you think to pursue higher studies in abroad? If you want to settle abroad and choosing a subject in which foreign country has expertise, then studying abroad is beneficial. Otherwise, India has very good institutes who offer masters course in Biotechnology. **For the Study in Biotechnology, USA, Canada, UK,and New Zealand are better destinations** Canada is cheaper and good for biotechnology, life sciences, and management related courses.
Your choice of subject (whether MS or MBA in Biotech or MBA non-biotech should align with your aptitude, interest and career goals. This will help you understand whether or not a dual degree will help you to enhance your skill set significantly compared to other professionals in the field.
I hope I have answered all your queries and helps you decide the apt program for a promising career. If you still have questions, feel free to write back.
Good luck!
