There is no such specific passing marks requirement to pass the Prelims test. The UPSC has never mentioned as such. The Civil Services Exam is essentially a competitive exam with three stages and the candidates are eliminated at every stage according to the approximate ratio which is based on the vacancies available. Generally, every year around 1000 vacancies and minimum 4 Lakh candidates apply for the CSE-Prelims. In the Preliminary stage, around 16000 candidates get qualified for the Mains of which after Mains exam, minimum 2500 candidates are called for Personality test (Interview). You fair chances of getting selecting here as for Interviews you will not have that much competition as you have it at previous stages. After the Interviews get over, the selected candidates will be undergoing training and afterward they will be allotted a service cadre.
Dear aspirant, the IAS exam is considered a prestigious one and for getting into a service, you need to toil hard. The smart and continuous study will help you achieve what you are dreaming of. I would like to suggest you that make your strategy inclusive and study for the Prelims and Mains simultaneously. You need to start your preparation minimum a year before the actual exam. An Early study will help you prepare in advance and you can handle your huge load of study easily. Join some test series of your choice. You will easily find reference books in the market or on the e-Commerce website.
