Dear Aspirant,
The Mains is the second but main stage of the Civil Services Examination which is an important one because it accounts for almost all the marks and the marks you score here have a greater impact on your ranking in the final list. After clearing Prelims, you are supposed to fill up the new application form which is also called DAF, i.e. Detailed Application Form which is of great importance and has to be filled up with a great care. The UPSC make available the facility of application for the Mains exam on its website, i.e. www.upsc.gov.in or www.upsconline.nic,in.
The DAF is approximately a ten pages long and you have to fill it up online. The information, you need to fill up, must be provided very carefully. The DAF is an important document and if you commit any mistake while filling up the same, your candidature may get canceled.
The Mains is a written exam which requires you to read relatively more references whereas the Prelims is an objective and multiple choice type exam. If you have passed the prelim then it’s a great job you have done as for some candidates it takes a long time to clear the Prelim and you are still there studying for prelims then you just concentrate on your study and not on the procedure for filling up the Mains form.
This cycle of examination takes a complete year which comprises intensive smart study and if you fail to get through any one of its stages then the cycle gets repeated till you appear in the final list or your available attempts get over. You need to build your own strategy according to the time available for you which you can easily do with the help of proper guidance.
