It’s only a bachelor degree which you are supposed to have passed at the time of Personality Test which is the last stage of the three stage exam. It means you can also appear in this exam even when you are pursuing your last year of graduation provided you will have your mark sheet ready at the time of interview. Notification generally comes in the month of February every year and Prelims exams is conducted in the month of May/June. You can see the syllabus of this exam in the official notification of the UPSC which comes in the Employment Newspaper and is also published on the official website of the UPSC on the predetermined dates. Applications are made online on the official website of the UPSC, i.e. www.upsc.gov.in. The fee is only 100 Rupees except SC/ST/PH and Female candidates who are exempted from application fee. The Prelims is all about factual questions with multiple choice questions which tests your depth of knowledge. There are two papers, i.e. General Studies and CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test) each having 200 marks. There is a negative marking in the Prelims and 1 mark will be deducted for three wrong answers. The second paper has qualifying nature and you need to score minimum 33% marks whereas the marks of first GS Papers are counted and considered for appearance in the Mains Exam. The second stage is the Mains exam which is of descriptive nature. There are total nine papers for Mains exam of which two are language papers. Marks of the language papers are not counted in final score. Thus you have to write seven papers each having 250 marks of which four are GS papers, two Optional subject papers and remaining one is an Essay paper.
