hello.

Union Public Service Commission every year conducts National Defense Academy exam and Naval exam for entry into National Defense Academy Pune.This exam is held twice a year in months of April and September. The notification of the exam comes 5-6 months before the commencement of the exam. For this exam a candidate must be either a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal, or a subject of Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India. ora person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Provided that a candidate belonging to above categories other than being Indian shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary, may be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the Government of India. He should be unmarried between 16 ½ years and 19 years at the time of joining. The educational eligibility varies. For army wing of NDA candidate should be 12th pass of the 10+2 pattern of school education or equivalent exam conducted by a state/ central education board or a university. For Air force and Naval wings one must have passed 10+2 pattern of school education or equivalent exam conducted by a state/ central education board or a university with physics and maths subjects. Candidates appearing in class 12th can also apply. For going in NDA students have to give a written exam which is an objective type exam. There are 2 papers Mathematics and General Ability Test each of 2 ½ hours duration. The former is of 300 marks while latter is of 600 marks. There is negative marking. The General Ability has one section (Part A) of English with questions designed to test the candidates understanding of English and workman like use of words. Part B is on General Knowledge and will cover subjects of physics, chemistry, general science, social studies, geography and current affairs. Candidates who clear the written exam have to appear before Services Selection Board (SSB) for intelligence and personality test to assess the candidates for their officer’s potentiality. For applying for air force candidates have to undergo Pilot aptitude test. Candidates also have to undergo group tests, group discussions, group planning, outdoor group tasks, have to give interview and lectures on specified subjects. The selected candidates are given preliminary training both academic and physical at NDA. The training during the first 2 ½ years is common to the cadets of all 3 wings. On passing out from the NDA army cadets go to the Indian Military Academy Dehradun, Naval Academy Ezhimala and Air force cadets to AFA Hyderabad. After completion of respective trainings cadets are given postings accordingly. For the physical fitness guidelines please go to the following link :-
