Hello Sahil,Welcome to Career Guide.comThanks for visiting us and writing us your career query.
It seems that you have been CA course and have cleared CA IPCC Group I successfully. Good to hear from you that you have bought this query on this platform. This is the very thoughtful and very good question.
Well Sahil as everyone knows CA is a Professional course which is one of the most renowned and prestigious career option. This is one of the great demanding career and have a wide scope in India and abroad.
While pursuing CA many students they forget that CA is not a full time degree course henceforth its not considered as degree but considered as part time professional degree. Student pursuing CA course must always keep in mind that along with CA they also need to concentrate on their degree and its percentage. In order to get a good job the industries do ask for your degree along with your CA certificate.
Coming to your query pursuing an article ship from small or medium firm may confine you to the practical learnings of the CA work. If the firm is small or medium they perhaps won't have much of the practical work available for the articles and you may also not get an exposure of learning of different sections in which CA people work. While some of the firms are small but they have much of the good practical learnings. In small or medium firms you can do the experiments for the implication of your theoretical knowledge into practical.
On the other hand if you have a an article ship in large or renowned firm that would really make a difference to your practical learning of CA. You will get an good exposure to the wide learning and will be helpful for your further future CA practise. While you will get an option to learn the new things related to CA and would also gain an extra knowledge. On successful completion of your article ship from large firm will help you to fetch a good job in the industry as you will be having a good knowledge and know how skills.
You can get a job through small or medium firm article ship too but that may need you to struggle.
I would advise you to go with the firm where you get to learn more and have a good exposure to the practical learning along with new methods and techniques, than may firm would be small or medium or large.
If you have the skills and know well how to apply your knowledge and skills it will definitely fetch you a good job.
While its not needed to apply in CA firms for article ship you can even apply in the industries.
Sky is the Limit for YOU.
Concentrate on your degree as well as CA .
I hope you find this answer relevant to your career query.
Feel free to get in touch again.
Wish you Good Luck
Thank you

Dear Aspirant,
Thanks for writing to careerguide.com!
It is not so. Though articleship in big company provide you learning opportunities, articleship in small or medium companies don't affect your job opportunities. For the job, your score, number of attempts, your knowledge, skills and attitude matters.
Choosing a company for articleship should depend on your career goals. When you go for articleship, your learning goals should be clear. You should try to cover most important aspect of CA practice such as auditing, accounting, record keeping, indirect taxation, litigation, international taxation, M&A, project financing, interacting with clients, processes etc. Assess your learning periodically. Of course Big companies provide good learning opportunities, stipend but I have learned that experience of articleship in both big as well as small or medium size companies is the best.
For three years of articleship, you can strategize articleship in a way that you can learn maximum. 1st year: Get into a Big Size company2nd year: Continue or take a transfer to Mid size3rd year: Transfer for Industrial TrainingRefer this link to know more about industrial training: http://www.sumeetkapur.in/industrial-training-a-comparison-with-articleship-in-a-ca-firm/
Hope this is helpful. Best Wishes for your bright career,Apurva Kumar Pandya, PhD
Hi Sahil,
I liked the way you have framed your question, which clearly proves that you are quite focused.
But if you are focused with your career, why is there a hitch.
Aim high and you will get what you deserve.
According to me, Internship is a must and doing it from a well known reputed organization is also important. But more important is "KNOWLEDGE" gained during that time. Knowing the subject matter is more important for you to get a job later in future.
Though my suggestion would be to get into a good or top firm for your internship, but at the same time look into what you get back in terms of work related knowledge, which will add on value for the future.
Be in the rat race, but try to stand apartWish you good luck.........
The industry does not differentiate between knowledge and domain expertise.
Your apprehension is absolutely incorrect. Please do not worry.
As a CA, you need to be perfect in technical knowledge and that is what matters the most. As far as the experience is concerned, it is a fact that companies prefer candidates who have worked in firms, since due to this it is possible that the candidate's base is good.
Best wishes
