Dear Aspirant,
you have asked a very good question and I am happy to answer it. To be a successful Fishery Scientist, besides being excellent in academic and research skills you should have good interpersonal skills.
The work values are principles or beliefs that are important to you and they affect all aspects of your life, whether personal or professorial. Knowing which work values are important for you will help you make decisions about career jobs or work path will suit you most.
Now question arises how do you like to work, whether you wish to work in public sector or private organization. One must understand that the work environment is quite different in government or private sector. Now in my opinion, what ever organization (government or private) you wish to work with, you develop a amicable work culture.
Some people like to work behind the desk alone, no doubt they are hard working, but now a days one has to work as a TEAM (together everyone achieves more). Some people work but they intermingle with other too much, which also not appreciable, because you enjoy others company, but you may be wasting his or her time.
One has to make balance between work and colleagues. Here your interpersonal skills will definitely help you. These are the skills, which every one has and it becomes part of our personality. We never analyze our behavior, we thing that what ever I am doing or saying is all correct.
One has to listen properly and calmly to others and then analyze the things. As a fishery scientist you have to daily deal with superiors, colleagues, students and may be clients. You are supposed to have a very pleasing personality with firm beliefs related to your subject. Some time you have also to compromise to come to a common agreeable decision.
One is also supposed to be honest not in money matters but also in work. You you carry out your work, how you complete the work is also very important. Set a deadline of your work and try to finish in time. Being fishery scientist, if you become a role model of your colleagues and students, definitely you will feel and make others very comfortable
With all my best wishes....
