Dear friend, many thanks for your question and I am happy to answer it through CareerGuide. Here you have not mentioned your academic qualifications and what you are doing at present.

As a zoologist, person must hold minimum a post graduate degree in Zoology. The following jobs are available for a zoologist.

School Teacher, Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Reader, Assistant Scientist, Scientist, Research Associate, Senior Research Fellow, Junior Research Fellow, Technical Officer, Museum Care taker, Forest officer, and many more.

The opportunity for any job related to zoologist depends upon following factors:

The academic qualifications of the person

The number of years of relevant experience

Place of work

Additional achievements

The academic qualifications do matter a lot, if a person is only post graduate then he or she will be eligible for the post of school teacher, as research associate, senior research fellow, junior research fellow. The school teacher is a permanent post (in government schools), but the RA, SRF and JRF are research project based positions. Normally the duration is of three years and may be extended to another one year. The plus point of doing such job is that the person will get technical knowledge related to the zoology subject. This experience will definitely count for the position of lecturer, assistant professor, assistant scientist at the time of interview. Moreover, the research papers published during project period will also add qualification of the person.

The number of years of relevant experience is also very crucial, if you have some teaching experience then you will have advantage at the time of teaching position openings. Your research experince will count at the time of scientist position interview.

The place of work is either government sector or private sector. But for the zoologist, the maximum openings are in government sector. If you work in colleges, university or research institute then the starting pay scale will be Rs. 15600-39100 plus academic grade pay of Rs. 5400 per month. In zoo and museums, the persons are employed on the basis of fixed remuneration.

Addition achievements such as published papers, review articles, book chapters, books and number of students guided. The number of research projects supervised also matters a lot when applying in government sector.

The jobs of zoologist are normally advertised in national news papers and if you know the web site of organization, then it can be seen directly. In last words will be just make yourself eligible academically and technically, you will get your dream job.

Good Luck...
