An air hostess has a very important position in the air Industry. This is the person who is responsible for the passengers on board. He/ she take care of their safety and ensure that they have a comfortable journey. There are various requirements which the air hostesses have to fulfill to come to this post. They should have communication skills and should know how to deal with people properly. Their physical requirements are also checked before they are given the job. They should have a good height so that able to reach the cabin boxes above easily. They should also have a good reach. Their weight should be in accordance with their height.
The minimum qualification required to apply in this field is to be 12th pass through a recognized board. The recruiters, however, prefer candidates with a bachelor’s degree or Diploma in fields like Tourism Management, Hospitality Management, Aviation, etc. Unmarried candidates are preferred. The duration of this job is very small, that is, between five to seven years. Although in the recent times, many airlines have increased this limit. After the expiry of their time of travel, the air hostesses can take up other jobs like managerial jobs or staff training jobs. Recruitment drives are conducted by airlines at regular intervals.

The airlines have contact with the Indian training centers. They have a selection process to choose the candidates. This process includes knowing about their training and their level of confidence through an interview. The airlines then give further training in the same to the selected candidate.
Duration of an Air Hostess
The duration of the job of an air hostess is not very long. They are recruited for a very short period of time. They have to work very odd hours and sometimes they do not get to sleep for days together. They spend about 65-90 hours in the air every month. If they work beyond the time for which they are contracted, they get a bonus for it. The air hostess’s job is for a maximum period of 10 years after that they are moved to the ground level work such as check hostess, ground hostess or other airline related jobs.
Training Procedure of an Air Hostess
There are many institutions in India that provide training to the air hostesses. Many airlines themselves to provide training to the air hostesses. It is not compulsory to get this training but is preferred by the airlines. The Indira Gandhi Institute of Aeronautics offers a Diploma in Cabin crew Services and Hospitality Management. This is a course of one to three years. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) offers an over distance course in Cabin Crew Training which requires the candidate to give a three-hour exam for the same.
Fee structure of the Air Hostess course
There are several coaching institutes in India that provide training to the air hostesses. The fee structure of colleges and courses varies according to the college. The duration of the course is another factor upon which the fee of the course depends. Most of the courses are a mix of personality development and airline orientation. The curriculum of training includes cabin crew training, the orientation of the aircraft (practically), training on the reservation system on the computer, training in English and other foreign languages which are required by the air hostesses. These institutes help to build the personality of the members and increase their level of confidence so that they are able to handle the passengers on board carefully. They are also taught swimming and first aid during their training. It is noticed that plane crashes most of the time in the water. So, the cabin crew members need to know how to swim so that they are able to take care of the people on the flight as well as themselves.
The most famous institute in India for training is the Franklin Institute of Air Hostesses Training which offers a combined long diploma course in hospitality, travel and tourism and aviation. It has centers all across the country. Savio D’Silva is another Mumbai based institute which offers courses in aviation. All these institutions help the candidate to get a better job and also help them to get promoted to higher level jobs.
Therefore, this career is a difficult, adventurous but promising option for the students who love to travel and explore the world. Air hostesses are usually very happy with their job. They get a nice salary for the work they do and enjoy doing it. The senior air hostesses even get a salary up to four lakhs a month. The competition in this industry has, however, increased a lot during the recent times. More and more people are applying for jobs in this profession.
