Hi

There are a lot of opportunities for petroleum engineers in private and public sector.

Career prospects are quite attractive in petroleum sector as petroleum companies have great influence and offer attractive salaries to employees. The demand for petroleum and petroleum products is only expected to increase and the increase would lead to creation of new jobs. In fact, there is great demand of efficient petroleum engineers and almost every young graduate in petroleum engineering gets a job offer from petrol and gas companies from India and overseas.

Petroleum engineers are employed in jobs which are mainly concentrated in oil and gas extraction, professional, scientific and technical services and petroleum refining. Major oil corporations, both central and state; and innumerable small and independent oil exploration, production, and service companies are the employers for this profession. They may also work for companies that produce drilling equipment, supplies and refining processes. Those with higher degrees can opt for the research field. He/she may join research labs as scientists or research fellow to carry out the R&D processes.

The type of job a petroleum engineer has will often determine whether how much they work indoors or outdoors. Many petroleum engineers work on job sites, but others work in an office setting. There are strong international travel opportunities for petroleum engineers, as it is very much a global business. Many companies have offices and sites in multiple countries and transfers are common.

As in every other industry, remuneration in petroleum engineering is determined according to the knowledge, skills, qualification, capabilities and experience of the candidate. Moreover, if the candidate is from top notch engineering college he may get a job which can pay salary between Rs 25,000 and Rs 30,000 per month. The salary increases with the experience 20-40 lacs pa.

Hope this helps

All the best

Using the latest drilling technology and geophysics for the exploration of oil reservoirs, they exploit the same for maximum output.

2. Downstream Sector:
Consist activities such as refining, marketing and distributing of petroleum products. Production is not the only work carried out in a petroleum company and the job or petroleum engineer does not get over as the oil is produced, rather, it startsat this stage.
