Hi @Madhur

The eligibility criteria to appear for the CSAT paper and the eligibility criteria to clear the exam (i.e., cut-off) are different.

First things first: CSAT is the qualifying Paper 2 under the UPSC Preliminary Exam.

UPSC Prelims Paper 2 Academic Eligibility:

The minimum educational requirement is a bachelor’s degree in any stream from a recognized university. There is no minimum percentage requirement.

Note: Some posts may require additional qualifications such as a diploma in company law, labour law, or public administration. Candidates who are in the final semester or awaiting the final results can also apply for the exam.

To Clear the CSAT Paper:

A candidate requires 33% marks in the CSAT exam (paper 2) to be eligible to clear the Prelims exam, though the final selection for UPSC Mains exam is based on your marks in Paper 1.

Hope now you have got clearity about the eligibility criteria and if looking for the right guidance for your exam preparation, then do read to this blog about UPSC CSAT  exam preparation strategy https://edutap.co.in/blog/how-to-prepare-upsc-csat/.

If there is anything else I can help you with, feel free to ask here.

The Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) is a part of the preliminary examination for the Civil Services Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in India. Here are the qualifications and percentage requirements for the CSAT exam:

Qualifications:

  1. Educational Qualification:

    • The candidate must hold a bachelor's degree from a recognized university or possess an equivalent qualification.
    • There is no specific percentage requirement at the bachelor's level to be eligible for the CSAT exam.
  2. Nationality:

    • The candidate must be a citizen of India for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS).
    • For other services, the candidate must be either:
      • A citizen of India, or
      • A subject of Nepal, or
      • A subject of Bhutan, or
      • A Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, to permanently settle in India, or
      • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam to permanently settle in India.
  3. Age Limit:

    • The candidate must be between 21 and 32 years of age. Age relaxation is provided for candidates belonging to certain categories such as SC/ST, OBC, and others as per government rules.

CSAT Exam Specifics:

  • The CSAT is part of the Preliminary Examination and is also known as Paper II.
  • It is a qualifying paper, meaning candidates need to score a minimum percentage to qualify for the next stage.
  • The minimum qualifying mark for the CSAT paper is 33%. This means candidates need to score at least 33% of the total marks to pass this paper.

Exam Structure:

  • Paper I: General Studies (200 marks, 2 hours)
  • Paper II (CSAT): Aptitude Test (200 marks, 2 hours)

It is important to note that while the CSAT paper is qualifying, the marks obtained in Paper I are considered for ranking and determining eligibility for the Main Examination.

To summarize, there is no specific percentage requirement at the educational qualification level for the CSAT exam. However, candidates must score a minimum of 33% on the CSAT paper to qualify.
