The question reflects your proactiveness so that you can job ready at the present and then climb up the ladder with better preparedness as well as your performance. Hence i congratulate you for your proactiveness.

As a fresher, you will have these major disciplines to get thorough exposure :
Recruitment & Selection
Compensation management
Performance Management system
Employee /Industrial relations
T&D, Organization Development

The above disciplines are specialised one in their own accord. As a fresher, learn to master all as a generalist. Even when you have preference for any one of this, remember that as HR manager, you will be handling a generalist profile and will have be good at supervising any / all of the above. To supervisor effectively, you yourself should master the subject.

1. Organization - an orderly approach
2. Multitaking - switching roles quickly - mental elasticity to cope up with the swift change in role / situations 3. Managing ambiguity
4. negotiation - not just salaries ! Negotiating cooperation, negotiating budgets, priorities, resources !
6. Maintaining ethics of highest standards
7 Mainitianing balance between conflicting demands, managing intrapersonal conflicts - the comflicts that are going on your mind due to conflicting demands
8. Problem solving and conflict management - all conflicts can not be resolved, they need to be managed, hence problem solving skills are critical
9 Change management

The skills as above are your survival skills and the more you master, better your chance of survival in corporate jungle !!

Hi There,

Apart from what the above mentioned counselor ms. nandadave has mentioned, which is the utmost requirement, I would just like to add few lines.

As a fresher do not be in a hurry to implement textual theory. Theory is not something that is practically applicable.
Be highly observant
Do a lot of reading.
Join various HR sites and be a part of the discussion.
Be innovative
Do not see employees as your target audience and experiment with them. Feel empathetic towards them. Be one with them, only on professional grounds.
Try and arrange for various training programs.
As well as opt for other programs which can change the office work atmosphere

Hope this helps

Wish you good luck............

Dear Aspirant,

As a fresher into human resources sector, it is very much unlikely for organizations to recruit you for a managerial position. In fact, it is the same around any sector. HR is one interesting domain that attracts candidates from almost any educational background. Yet, the preference always stays on with students who have studied a relevant degree in Human resources. For example, BBA/BBM with HR, BCom with HR, Sociology, Psychology, Organizational psychology, Counselling psychology, Social work and yes, lastly the MBA with HR as well. To begin a career in HR, if you have a degree in the above mentioned education backgrounds, you stand eligible in front of the employers' eyes.

Apart from this, HR profession is also equally welcoming students with a technical background. For example, if you have studied a BSc Computer science/ Information technology/ Electronics or even a B.E/ B.Tech. in these subjects, you are often preferred to be recruited for Technical recruiter roles. Candidates with technical background are likely to scan resumes well on job portal when selecting prospective employees for technical positions. Therefore if you have a technical background you can look up for Technical recruiter roles.

As mentioned, if you have a relevant education background you can land up in a HR recruiter role or a HR Generalist role where you will handle these areas of human resource management like, recruitment and selection, payroll, training and development. Only when you gain hands on experience in these domains, you will be likely to go up the other stages within HR like talent management, strategic HR, HR analyst, HR Business Partner or even the HR leadership roles. To begin with you will have to target fresher roles for HR in recruitment. And as you gain experience, you can move around other areas and in a span of five years coupled up with hard work you can see yourself in a HR Managerial position.
