What will be the best career option for me .. I passed 12th with best of four marks- 89%??

I had pcb with psychology in 12th std.. I got 96 in psychology... I always had interest studying psychology.... will BA(hons) applied psychology be a better option for me to take up..?? what are the different career options after that.. and which coleges will be good for this course?

I am a clinical and counseling psychologist myself. Therefore I think I shall be able to guide you perfectly. The career option you are going to select is definitely good and future oriented. A career in psychology is the future brand. Every school, colleges, organizations, companies, hospitals, hotels etc are going to hire a psychologist relevant to their field in the near future. Therefore within five years there shall be numorous opportunities within India. Option to settle abroad are also available.

BSc or BA in applied psychology is good as the basic foundation course for further educational development. There are several colleges available who gives quality training. Delhi University College is one among them. BITS Pilani, Amity college etc are equally nice.

You need to see which are the subjects covered in applied psychology syllabus. You have to select which is your career option and then select the college where that applied psychology branch is taught. Let me give you some of the applied psychology branches which are in demand.

1. Clinical Psychology - Works with psychiatrists to assess the individual mental state, diagnosis and treatment.

2. Organizational Psychology - Work in companies and organizations. Prepares and plans future operations with the help of consumer psychology data input.

3. Educational psychology - Works in schools and colleges to help students in their mental challenges related to education.
  1. Counseling psychology - giving counseling to the needy who comes with mild mental disorders

5. Forensic psychology - works with police and other investigative agencies to solve criminal cases.

There are so many other areas of applied psychology. The above five are most sought after for the time being. Future could be different. You can select a college where any one of the applied psychology branch is taught as per your choice.

To work as a psychologist in any of the branch you need post graduation and preferably MPhil and PhD. Passion towards your subject and career should help you achieve this. Clinical psychology practice generally requires an MPhil in clinical psychology.

As these branches are equally lucrative, decision is yours. Mind you, Career is life and life style. Knowledge is power. Salary comes last.
