Good question, But really speaking there is no answer to this thinking at all.Majorly created by the society and people just blindly follow.
As early streams were very limited and majorly science specializations like engineering, pharmacy, medical etc required entrance exams and there were huge cutoffs and these fields were opted by students with good scores, so it became a trend that all science students are genius.
Though it needs to be mentioned that we have brilliant students who have opted for commerce and have cleared their CA or CS or CFA exams, which are also cleared through entrance exams and require intelligent children.
Though this trend now has changed.
Though earlier certain streams were restricted to only a particular stream, this restriction now has been removed or rather is open now.
Hence these days we are seeing the high percentage student are opting for ARTS or creative streams. Since they have a lot of scope and when you choose something you are good at, you excel in it accordingly. So choose based on your potentials and you would be the best.
Wish you all the very best...
Dear Aspirant,
Thanks for approaching us at CareerGuide.
Highly appreciate your thinking and would like to compliment you for your thoughts. I very much agree with you.
As per my experience, students select wrong career by coming under pressure of parents, peers, friends and mis information. Then after some years they think that they have made a mistake and then think of some other course to do.
If some time was spent on thinking the individual capability and liking, then this would not occur. But many a times, students take decisions very very casually and by getting influenced by others.
Science is scholar, commerce is average and arts is dull, is absolutely wrong and this impression has been created for many years by people themselves.
All wrong career choices are made due to one single reason: Not taking one's capability, interests, emotional quotient, intelligence, passion into consideration.
Therefore, we counsellors always suggest students to take wise decision and help them take those wise decision by recommending them psychometric tests, which will help you understand yourself in respect of your strengths, weaknesses, emotional quotient, etc. and indicate exactly which stream is good for you.
Best wishes,

Hello,
I would say it is concerned with the stereotypes constructed socially by our society since the ancient education times. But to be honest, all subjects and leading degrees are equal in every aspects of measuring scale, be it, skills, capabilities or potential. As Science has been created with hype that it is one of the most demanding course, that requires high potential and talent to survive in this field, people tend to think Science students are brilliant. But this is not in a true case which our society fails to understand. In my opinion, all these subjects lead to research and innovation. As research and innovation requires skill and talent, then these subjects have to be treated in equal proportion.
When I was schooling, I was interested in Economics, but as there was some hype around Science, without much guidance I opted for science group, believing I would be treated as a bright student. But later I had to change course of careers as I divulged into Management, losing interest in Science. This is my personal experience, and it happens with many students I know. So discarding Commerce, arts and humanities on low grounds is absolutely a myth created by the society and I would say not to pay your attention with it anymore. Society will change but this won't happen any quickly, it may take more than two to three decades.
But if I can throw in a sincere advice for you, never choose a course believing people think you are a bright student because you are reading such a competitive course. It may not be your type. So to avoid such tragedy, make use of Psychometric or personality assessment tests that are available on this website to identify the right subject that is suited to your individual skills and needs. In this way, you are more safe for now and in future as well. All the best.
