Biology is an immensely rewarding and career option.Biologists study living organisms and their relationship to the environment. They perform research to gain a better understanding of fundamental life processes or apply that understanding to developing new products or processes. Most specialize in one areas of biology , such as zoology , microbiology, botany, biotechnology etc.

Biologists usually conduct research in laboratories using a wide variety of other equipment. Some conduct experiments involving animals or plants. This is particularly true for botanists, physiologists and zoologists.

Some biological research also takes place outside the laboratory. For example a botanist might do field research in tropical rain forests to see which plant grow there, or an ecologist might study how a forest area recovers after afire. Some marine biologists also work outdoors,

Biological scientist can now manipulate the genetic material of animals and plants, attempting to make organisms more productive or resistant to disease. Basic and applied research on biotechnological processes such as recombining DNA has led to the production of important substances including human insulin and growth hormones. To make a career in biology one can pursue post graduation in any of the following fields:-

B.Sc- M.Sc Botany

B.Sc- M.Sc Zoology

B.Sc- M.Sc Forestry

B.Sc- M.Sc Horticulture

B.Sc- M.Sc Microbiology

B.Sc- M.Sc Biotechnology

B.Sc- M.Sc Biochemistry

B.Sc- M.Sc Biophysics

B.Sc- M.Sc Genetics

B.Sc- M.Sc Oceanography

B.Sc- M.Sc Environmental Science

B.Sc- M.Sc Bioinformatics

Dear Aspirant !

Biologist itself explain the background of biology which includes basic biology from class vth to 10th and then again from 12th to B.Sc which include Botany and Zoology. Alternatively you can understand biology in the form of life sciences also. Many coleges offers UG and PG degree with different TAG names for biological sciences but fundamentally it remains same. Only applied aspect needs different nomenclature so that specialization adheres the specifc interest as per the requirement of global need.

In my opinion to become a biologist is far different from student and biological practitioner, it emphasize the wholesome understand of biology and then you can comment anything with your expereince. After long research and academic experience a scientist comes into the position to conclude something noble.

In simple langauge you can claim any degree which graduates you to take up further chalange in biological research that is another dymension of biologist. Following points are mendatory to understand before taking up biology as a career subject:
1. Obtain degree in Biology/Medical Sciences/Agriculture Sciences/ Agriculture Engineering/ Biotechnology/Life Sciences/ Forestry/ Marine Biology etc
2. Explore specialized research organization/institutes/university for the master degree along with desertation/ research project
3. Qualify standard qualification like UGC-NET/JRF/CSIR-JRF etc for recognition at the premium level only then you will be given entry at higher level -Ph.D degree
4. Spend quality time in doctrate degree program, befor that you need to draw the common interest between you and your proposed research supervisor who will facilitate and accomodate you for your research accomplishment inly then you could be able to get your Ph.D awarded.
5. Again you go for postdoctorate research from national and international research which will benfit you monitarily as well as economicaly both.
6. It was the decent pathway to make a beginer in biological sciences not only in biology all other sciences and technology have the same criteria to claim the best

7. Throughout the journey one thing will be constant that is your system oriented interest if you keep changing your interest then you are diluting your objectives and being jack of all the trades.

8. This entire journey will explain you how to be a biologist and then you will realize my note.

All the best
Dr. Manoj

Dear friend. A biologist is a person, who study the viving organism and their interaction with the environment. A biologist could be a botanist, zoologist, microbiologist, biochemist, biotechnologist, agricultural scientist, forensic scientist, biomedical engineer, environmental scientist, marine biologist.

To become a biologist, one must study biology subject starting from secondary education. In 10+2 you must take biology as a subject along with physics, chemistry or mathematics. In graduation choose any one oe two of the following; botany, zoology, biotechnology, biochemistry, microbiology, environmental science. If you are inclined to become a n agriculture scientist, then you have to opt agriculture subject in your graduation. This is a four and half years degree course. Similarly, if you are interested to become a vetrinary scientist, then you have join the course of veterinary scicencs and animal husbandry. This is a five years degree course. To become a biologist you have to do masters degree in the agricultural as well as in veterinary science program. The specialization in Post graduation depends uopn your marks obtained in graduation as well upon your interest.

Foe other courses you have choose any one of the following degree program:

BSc in Zoology, Botany, Chemistry and post graduation in botany, zoology, microbiology, biochemistry or biotechnology
BSc in Botany, Microbiology, Chemistry and post graduation in Microbiology, biotechnology, biochemistry
BSc in Microbiology, Chemistry, computer science; then post graduation in microbiology or biotechnology
BSc in Environmental sscience, microbiology,; post graduation in microbiology or environmental science
BSc or BTech in Biomedical Sciecne; post graduation in Biomedical Sciences or Biomedical Engineering
BSc in Microbiology, Forensic science, Biotechnology; post graduation in Forensic science or microbiology or biotechnology
BSc in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Post graduation in Nano-Biotechnology

BSc in Zoology as one subject, post graduation in Fishery Science
BSc in Microbiology as one subject ; post graduation in marine sciences or biology
BTech in Biotechnology and then MTech in Biotechnology, many universities offer dual degree program.

After obtaining the post graduation degree in any one of the above mentioed subject, you are eligible to work as scientist or biologist or lecturer in colleges, universities and institute. But considring the competitive environment of today, one must have doctoral degree in specific subject. You may have MSc in Microbiology and you may do PhD in Biotechnology or Molecular Biology.

Finally to make an entry into a university or institute as a biologist a person should also possess a National Eligibility Test certificate (NET) conducted by state universities or UGC-CSIR or ICAR. As a true biologist you have to conduct research and uncover some unsolved queries of your field.
With all my best wishes,

Good Luck...
