Computer Engineers are responsible for designing, devloping, implementing and testing computer based hardware and software, including the components that are found inside computer equipment, as well as actualdevices that contain te computers and the software that runs on those machines. they may also design network that connects computer systems, and work on itegrating software programs with computer hardware.

Education Requirements:
To become Computer Engineer, you will typically require a Bachelor of science degree in computer engineering, computer scienceor electrical engineering.

Responsibilities or Rquired Tecnical Skills:
Since thecomputer engineering field is quite broad, the required technical skills listed in the job postings you may come across will vary, depending on whether the job is more hardware - or software focused, and which industry the employer belongs to. Typically, you will need to have the followings:

1. An understanding of particular computer hardware architecture you will be working with.
2. Experience designing, coding and testing softwares.
3. Familiarity with Software test procedure and scripts
4. Experience building your own PC System
5. Understanding of different operating systems, including windows and linux, and how certain types of software will work with them.
6. Experience with device drivers.
7. Understanding of networking and security
8. Understanding of the (sometimes specialied) software that is typically used in particular industry.
9. Knowledge of programming languages such as C, C++, Java and other Object-Oriented languages.

Computer Engineers usually use computer-assisted software engineering, or CASE, tools to automate the process. Theyalso test, debug and update programs.

Other Crucial Skills:
Since Computer Engineers work closely with programmers, designersm product developers and testers, they really need to have strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to work in a team.

Field employing Computer engineers:
Computer Engineers are likely to find work in a variety of fields, including (but not limited to):
1. Telecommunicaions
2. Manufacturing
3. Transportation
4. Product Development

Here are some interesting "Niche" areas of Computer Engineering:
1. Working with Radar and Communicatoins Technology.
2. Supporting high performance and embedded computing systems for nuclear medicines.
3. Military software Support.
4. Designing new Motors and Sensors for Robotics Equipments.

Down the line 5 Years, one can find him/herself as a Mid Level Manager in IT Companies with lotsof growth associated. One can even start up their own "IT Consultancy Firm"
