This is a typical common confusion in commerce students whether to take maths or not.
I would like to tell you for sure that without maths in commerce, there is no loss of anything. I understand that your brother is saying you to take maths since its very important, I would like to tell you that yes its important but not the only thing which is important.
I would like to tell you that I personally did not take maths at my commerce graduation, however still managed to do excellently the further courses.
Though I would say that an average command over maths is essential for a commerce student, since ultimately commerce is a field of transactions, costs, finance, etc. which is maths related. However, without maths in commerce, you can definitely do excellent careers. However I would definitely suggest you NOT to complete ignore maths. An average level of maths you should definitely know and have command on.
Without maths, you can take up careers in Law, Company Secretaryship, Hotel Management, Event Management, Human Resource, Marketing, etc.
HSC level of maths is not taht difficult and can be learnt through a normal practice in a disciplined way. Do not fear at all about it.
