Dear aspirant

Thank you very much and also i am glad that you decided to approach counsellors at Meracareerguide. Becoming a professor is highly ambitious and great you choose this line. Before i start explaining on how to become a professor, let me introduce myself. I am Gomathi venkat and i am a professional counsellor practicing in this field for over since 23 years now. I specialise in guidance and counselling on education choice and career line for university students and all the other people. I am also the Managing Director at GV Counselling group based in Bangalore and recently moved into Chennai as well. Now let us go into your query.

A Professor in textile engineering! Your thought process is very different and i appreciate that you have chosen to target a niche area. Nice. To become a professor in this field, you generally require two qualifications. Either a Masters degree or a PhD degree. However in both cases you are required to pass through the basic eligibility which is a minimum first class in 10th class, 12th class and a bachelors degree. It is recommended to study a BSc Textile designing or a Graduate diploma (4 years) in textile designing like the National institute of design NID Hyderabad offers. You may also consider studying BSc textile designing from Pearl academy of fashion Bangalore, Vogue institute of fashion and technology. Completing this Bachelors degree, you are required to pursue a masters in the same field and you can certainly choose the same recommended universities for studying Masters in Textile designing. It is expected to have a minimum first class pass too.

Next, with this masters degree, you can write UGC-NET/ UGC-SET/ UGC-LEC exam and passing either of the exams, you are qualified to work in colleges and universities as a lecturer.
Else you can plan for a phD in textile designing and Amity school of fashion designing Noida runs a PhD in textile designing. You may also consider applying to CCS Haryana Agricultural university for a PhD in Textile designing. For this PhD, you also require UGC-NET/ CSIR scores to be eligible to apply.

Completing the PhD you are qualified to work as an assistant professor in textile engineering and after few years of performance and experience you are promoted as a professor.

All the best
