Hello There! I am very glad to see you approach CareerGuide.com for career guidance. We experts can very well guide you and contribute to your career success. First of all, I am very glad that despite of being the first year of BMS you have decided to think about your future career. Well, choosing between Marketing and Finance has always been one of the major and common dilemmas among students and you are not different, so you need not worry and get tensed. Further I also liked very much your attitude of not following the crowd that is not following the herd mentality and thinking and daring to choose a different path and be a different person amongst the crowd. This attitude will surely make wonders and I suggest you to keep up this attitude. You said that you do not wish to go for MBA after BMS, how ever since you have chosen BMS, doing MBA would be easier for you and actually that is the natural career progression one has. How ever apart from MBA there are many other career options which you can choose based on your liking, interests, passion. Choosing between finance and marketing is simple. If you like figures, calculations and spreadsheets, then choosing finance would be the best since the things in which you are comfortable in should always be preferred, since that gives you the natural command and inclination. If you are excited about markets, retail, stores, supply chain, sales, product, services, etc. then Marketing should be chosen. Marketing involves substantial travel while finance does not. I think if you do not wish to go for MBA, you can choose any of them for your BMS degree. Apart from MBA, after BMS you can do MCA, MCM, Hotel Management, Chartered Accountancy, (CA), Company Secretaryship (CS), Cost Accountancy (CWA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), LLB. All these are professional courses which have a distinct identity in the market and professions in itself. For doing these courses, your graduation specialisation will not matter. I suggest you to listen to your inner heart and then decide. Best Luck
