Dear aspirant,
IPS has really been a challenging one service and if you are determined firmly to be part of the Indian Police Service to serve our nation India proudly, you must know the prerequisites beforehand to become an IPS officers.
There is no separate exam for IPS but the one common exam for IAS/IPS/IFS has been held by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) every year in three stages. You must have any academic degree from a recognized university to be eligible for appearing in this exam. It depends on your marks and preferences for services mentioned by you in the application form that whether you will be allotted the IPS or any other service. If your rank is higher in the final list of selected candidates and you have preferred IAS as your first preference then you can get into IAS or any service bellow IAS. You may even prefer the IPS as your first preference but after getting high marks will not let you have IAS as IAS comes at the top before IFS and IPS respectively and you will have IPS and other services below it to choose from. There are special physical requirements for becoming IPS as par the need of this highly challenging service. You can find such all physical requirements on the official website of the UPSC, i.e. www.upsc.gov.in.
