Depending upon their area of specilization within the field of psychology , psychologists perform following tasks:-Clinical Psychologists:-work with counselling centres, hospitals, community health centres or do their independent practice. They assist emotionally and mentally disturbed people adjust to life and may help medical patients deal with illnesses.Educational Psychologists- work in schools and colleges with teachers, students, parents and administrators to resolve academic and behavioral concenrs of students. They evaluate the effectiveness of academic programmes , behavior management procedures and other facilities provided in the academic setting.Counselling Psychologists- deals with people who have emotional and personal problems. THey use various techniques such as testing and interviewing to guide peoiple on how to deal effectively with day to day problems of life. They also provide consultancy on academic and career concerns.Developmental Psychologist- study the physiological, cognitive and social development that takes place throughout life. Some specilaize in behavior during infacncy, childhood and adolescence or changes that occurs during old age.Industrial Psychologists work for government, industry or business houses. They apply psychological principles to improve the productivity of employees and overall organization work culture.Research Psychologists- investigate the cognitive, emotional , physical or socail aspects of human behavior.Socail psychologist- They work with social organizations and institutions in research, system design or other applied psychology fields.
The most interesting things you can do while working as a Psychologist are creating your own style of handling your patients. Go beyond the bookish knowledge and observe the world with your own eyes and if interested then get into research. The theories might not suit our demographic and social structure so implement with discretion.
I don't want to sound like a book so that is the reason I am suggesting you practical things. Join an NGO which is working with special children/ visit an Old age home or simply provide career counselling to the students and have personal as well as professional satisfaction. And yes don't forget to interact with your peers for the review or discussions.
